The Seattle Sounders will have it all to do when they take the field at the Estadio Corona in Torreon, Mexico, trailing 1-0 on aggregate. The Sounders were given the weekend off by Major League Soccer which should give them a chance to rest and re-focus towards their second-leg match against Liga MX side Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals (8pm, Fox Soccer Channel).

Santos are scalding hot, unbeaten in six straight matches, but they weren’t afforded the same rest that the Sounders received this weekend. Santos played to a scoreless draw on Sunday against Xolos in Tijuana. Herculez Gomez, the goalscorer in the first-leg, started and played 56 minutes before being taken off.

While the Sounders will be missing Brad Evans and Obafemi Martins, they’ll welcome back Eddie Johnson from injury and goalkeeper Michael Gspurning from suspension.

SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight’s match so please feel free to follow the action here. As always, you are welcome to share your own thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

  1. Big mistake to not start Mauro Rosales. After he was subbed in the 60′ game was Seattle’s for the taking and they put a lot of pressure on Santos. Would have liked to see his for the full 90 and this could have been different. I really don’t understand why you leave you most technically gifted player on the bench to start the game.

  2. Admirable from Seattle. And, Seattle’s bench came to play. So close… I hope The Galaxy can play well and get lucky tomorrow.

  3. the sad truth is that all Ligamx play half ass and we as MLS fans get excited since ligamx teams play half ass and our league has a chance to win but it starts with the coach. why coach (manager)? because if your coach is the fattest soccer coach in the world, who can not motivate its players in or out locker room in a semifinal, is really bad. if I was sigi, I would go after joseph, scott, eddie, the goalie who f*ck up with direct kick……I would have gone crazy in the locker room. however sigi and many MLS coaches lack attitude and tactics, which make mls players look like crap.

    • I don’t buy this. Sigi wants to win and is as serious of a professional soccer coach as anyone in Mexico. So he doesn’t yell in press conferences and has an overall calm demeanor and you take this to mean he’s out coached by his Mexican counterpart? Not so.

He has to work with what he’s got and he’s got a less talented team. Sigi may go after his players but fans may never know because they’re pros and keep it in the team. The difference is in players not coaches in these concocaf games.

  4. I support my league and proudly do so. However, the product on the pitch that I saw for Seattle was horrible.

The type of support Seattle supporters provide for the club (and league) deserve better. Until we can compete with salaries with Liga MX, we’re going to be second fiddle for a long, long time.

    • I honestly didn’t think they were that bad. Lost 2-1 on aggregate to a team with a significant advantage in player salary/talent.
I was proud of the effort, especially in the second half.

      • Not questioning the effort but I’m tired of being proud of “try hard” guys.

The real gap in talent is from the 12-23 players, which is often directly related to player salary/club salaries.

If/when LA get knocked out, I think I’m done following this tournament for awhile.

      • If you are tired of this I imagine you are going to be asleep by the time it changes.
Even in Seattle they couldn’t match the attendance figures in Torreon for this tie. Game still isn’t as important here.
Just remind yourself how far we have come in the past 15 years.

  5. Both teams should have had at least 3 goals in my view, finishing was poor from both sides. Seattle has to be happy with the chances created but they were awful down the middle defensively.

  6. This so disjointed from Seattle. I seems that the touch leave the players when they need it most. I hope they get their game in the final 15 minutes.

  7. Good god Seattle can’t hit eh broad side of a barn.

EJ: Hey heres the ball in the six yard box, what should I do? Oh I know I will blast it over the goal with my left foot.

Zakuani: Hey Baloy I just burned you. Well look at that I am in on goal. What should I do? Hey I am going to blast it over the goal from 10 yards out.

Joseph: Hey look at that the I have a free header. What should I do? I am going to head blast it over the goal by a mile.

Seattle should at the very least have 1 goal right now.

  8. Ok Scott needs to be left in Mexico, he is getting owned like he is on Santos’s payroll lol. Martinez and Yedlin have played very well and that is about it. MLS teams mids have to drop back on the defense so much that they can’t go forward to generate offence. Until MLS teams can afford good back fours to take the pressure off the midfield to play defense they will struggle against Liga MX.

  9. One man. One mission. To destroy all MLS competition lol. And he is doing it. What is this mans name you may ask? Hercules.
