The Portland Timbers dominated the Houston Dynamo in a way that opponents rarely do, and the provided the first real glimpse of what the Caleb Porter era could bring to Portland.

Ryan Johnson’s two goals made the highlights, but it was the total team effort and quality possession that helped the Timbers overwhelm the Dynamo on their way to a 2-0 victory.  Portland’s decisive win made them the easy pick to be the SBI MLS Team of the Week.

The Timbers beat out the Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire for this week’s honors.

Portland had been winless heading into the weekend, but the Timbers’ penchant for rallying back and showing improvement in the second half of matches finally bore fruit in a match they never trailed in, and the Timbers showed just how dangerous they can be once they have a lead.

What did you think of Portland’s performance against Houston? Which MLS team impressed you the most in MLS Week Six?

  1. Such crisp, creative and accurate passing in piss-poor conditions and as mentioned before, just a few inches or feet away from a 5-0 domination of a credible opponent. The Portland Timbers exceeded previous expectations and are showing what the future just may hold for this club. Imagine what will happen when this rather new group of players has time to “gel” and get a feel for each other. Watch out!

  2. Houston was lucky it wasn’t 5-0, and it could’ve very easily been more than that.
Timbers looked like the team we’ve been hoping to see, and they did it with two starters gone in first 25 minutes.
