  2. Dortmund always has the best TIFOs…they’re slowly becoming one of my favorite teams. Definitely my favorite in Germany.

  3. I’m of German descent, and I love Germany, but it reminds me of when a Jewish friend and I were watching the World Cup, and Germany was playing somebody in Munich, and the crowd was all vocal and unifified. We watched in awe for a second, and he said: “Oof. Still sort of takes your breath away!”

      • Old School, I applaud you lack of bias, but there is some history there. (If it helps, read my friend’s quote in the voice of Louis CK.)

      • Personally, it seems like an odd and out of place comment. To me, if you’re looking at that and your first reaction is holocaust, I don’t really se it. I guess that means that pretty much every time you see anything German that’s what you think? I guess that’s fine and I’m certainly not going to tell you how to feel but we talk a lot of Bundesliga here and a ton of German players and German Americans. Heck, our manager is German and we don’t see the boards littered with holocaust references so your comment seems odd and out of place. In all likelihood, none of the people in that crowd were even alive during ww2 so it seems unfair and strange to make that association to a bunch of folks having fun at a soccer match.

      • I totally agree that “introducing” racial comments on a sports blog is totally out of place. How would you feel if someone would bring up slavery or the slaughter of native Americans when talking about American sports? Finally, many German soccer fans have nothing to do with past history unless you believe in collective guilt.

  4. Amzing TIFO. The German fans always have something creative up their sleeves. My German is so-so from college but I think the TFO translate roughly to: “On the trail of the lost Cup.” or “on the hunt for the lost Cup”
