Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Three Premier League matches featuring England’s top teams highlight Wednesday’s soccer action.

Manchester City hosts Wigan Athletic, with both sides needing to win for different reasons. City wants to keep their title hopes alive, while Wigan needs to win to get themselves out of the relegation zone, where they currently sit in 18th place. Both sides should be wary of each other, as the two will meet again in the FA Cup Final on May 11.

Manchester United takes on West Ham United, while Chelsea visits Fulham in a vital London derby for Rafael Benitez’s men as they look to keep a top-four place.

Meanwhile, in France, Italy, and Germany, Cup matches are in play on Wednesday.

Three months after their first-leg victory, AS Roma travels north to take on struggling Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinals. A victory for Michael Bradley’s squad could set up an all-Rome final, with Lazio having already qualified for the final with a win over Juventus.

Finally, in the evening, Copa Libertadores and an international friendly between Mexico and Peru take center stage.

  1. Big Sam is getting fined for that one. Goes HAM on the linesman and says there’s no excuse to miss that call.

West Ham deserved–yes, deserved–all 3 points. The United EPL officiating bias continues.

  2. Is Ferguson drunk?

I strongly dislike United and I would never take Rooney off unless he was very poor and that certainly has not been the case. He’s your best player.

  3. Perfect example right there.

Nolan has the ball hit off his face in midfield and nobody, not even United players, says a word and the Brit commentator comes back right after the play and says, “well it’s good nothing came from that very clear Nolan handball.”

Uhh… not even close to his hand, but nice try.

  4. David Luiz…catches so much grief, indeed more than his share, when he makes mistakes but wow does he make plays. And that shot was worth the price of admission.

  5. Contrary to major news networks thoughts–we don’t all love Manchester United and we don’t want to listen to commentators who demean everything the opponent does.

  6. Rio Ferdinand was just beaten so bad he should probably just consider retiring like that 7′ guy Vince Carter dunked on in the Olympics.
