Tigres de UANL saw their 13-match unbeaten run come to a halt on Sunday, falling 2-0 against Pumas de UNAM after Martin Bravo’s lone strike in the 32nd minute lifted the Mexico City side towards victory on Sunday.

Tigres, who held much of the possession during the game, opened up the scoring after Emanuel Villa eighth goal of the season put the Nuevo Leon side up 1-0 early in the eighth minute.

However, Hugo Ayala’s own-goal would gift Pumas the momentum to keep going, which lead to the game-winner when Martin Bravo scored in the 32 minute to make it 2-1 for Pumas.

Meanwhile American Jose Torres saw a full 90 minutes of play for Tigres, and played mostly solid in the midfield despite not being able to help his team create chances for a comeback and to avoid a first defeat in 13 matches.

Here’s a closer look at this weekend’s matches in the Liga MX:

Monterrey Downs Pachuca

After falling to Pumas 2-1 late in the game last week, Pachuca looked to avoid losing a second straight match, especially to a Monterrey side who was looking for a fourth straight home win.

Neri Cardozo’s 72nd minute strike lifted los Rayados to victory despite being a man down for much of the second half, Saturday evening at Estadio Tecnologico.

Monterrey looked to continue its momentum from earlier this week, when they defeated MLS’ Los Angeles Galaxy, 1-0 in CONCACAF Champions League play, which saw them return to a third straight champions league final.

Jesus Corona opened up the deadlock for Monterrey, scoring in 27th minute to make it 1-0 Monterrey. Despite Pachuca holding possession for most of the game, the Tuzos weren’t able to capitalize on many if their created chances, outshooting los Rayados 14-10.

With the win, Monterrey jump from 12 to 8 in the Clausura standings and visit Torreon when they play Santos Laguna while also looking for a playoff spot given there are only three matches left to the 2013 Clausura season.

  1. I saw parts of the Tijuana disaster and was not impressed. Are there any Tijuana fans who can explain what is going on, why the team appears to falling apart? Cannot all be blamed on the Copa Libertadores, can it? Castillo, who I like, looked only a shadow of how he was looking before he got his face smashed in early March and facial bones broken.
