The majority of leagues in Europe are winding down and for several Americans Abroad that means the race for success or survival is about to heat up.
Tim Howard is one of the Americans still with something to play for this late into the season, as he and Everton are within striking distance of a Europa League spot. The Toffees could move into that position with a win this Sunday, but their task is no easy one. Everton are set to take on rivals Liverpool in the final Merseyside Derby of the season and the match is at Anfield, where the Toffees are winless in their last five games.
Michael Bradley and AS Roma are also in for a battle this weekend. They travel to Florence to take on fourth-placed Fiorentina on Saturday and will surely need all three points in order to maintain their narrow lead over Udinese, Inter Milan and Lazio and remain in Serie A’s final Europa League place.
For Fabian Johnson and Hoffenheim, there is a big opportunity to move forward in their fight against relegation on Saturday. Hoffenheim face fellow strugglers Werder Bremen on Saturday and a victory there could push the club into the relegation play-off spot with a chance to move out of the drop zone completely in the final two games of the season.

Which of these games are you most looking forward to? Think Howard and Everton can go on the road and top Liverpool? Do you see Bradley and Roma beating Fiorentina?

I just counted 58 players. That’s pretty impressive actually. How many other countries can claim this number? Brazil and Argentina, for sure…and for some countries there is not need to leave the country to further ones career…but still, that’s quite a number.
Great point.
Spain, The Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany.
good company
The question should be for non-European countries.
I’m surprised Mexico doesn’t have more.
Also, I bet the African countries have a lot of players playing in the European leagues
as was postulated in the original comment, mexico is probably one of those countries where there really isn’t a great need to move abroad, either to make $, or to garner national team interest.
I expect Tottenham will bring out an attacking lineup and score at least 3 on Southampton. Expect Dempsey to get at least an assist and maybe a goal.
sure hope so. the more the merrier.
+1 run over southampton and continue on the chelsea on wednesday. big week for spurs!
Here’s hoping for a Spurs win.
most accomplished American in Europe?
Cherundolo
Dempsey
Reyna
Harkes
Onyewu
Beasley
Cherundolo is in the records books for his club which is a nice mid table club. Dempsey has scored more than any other American born player in Europe. Reyna has several championships. Beasley has several trophies and highest scoring American in the CL. Onyewu has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and was center of big transfers throughout his career. Harkes was the first Yank star in Englad
uhhhh….tim howard? brad friedel? Brian McBride for crying out loud (37 premier league goals!!) !!!??
….and I’d argue that Michael Bradley should be far above Onyewu, just on his play at chievo last year alone, let alone his stellar and consistent play for roma this year!
Friedel for sure.
The top 5 Americans in Europe :
Friedel, Dempsey, Reyna, Cherundolo and Onyewu
though Bradley/Altidore might become among the biggest and best within 5 years
Reyna over Dempsey. He was there longer and played at a hig level longer. Can’t see why McBride wouldn’t be over Beasley, Gooch and probably Harkes.
Dolo is the unquestioned number one.
Ummmm… Tom Dooley.
I just can’t see Gooch on this list. Playing for big clubs, but neither often nor that well, and getting transferred doesn’t amount to an especially accomplished European career, particularly when there are so many better candidates.
Josh Gatt will be sold this summer to a Dutch mid table club
mark it now. His Norwegian club who won the title for the past 2 years are bottom of the standings after selling some of their best players
I’m praying that both Dempsey and Altidore score this weekend.
Brace for them both. Altidore has 30 goals for the season with Dempsey only on 11
it’s odd that we don’t have any other goal scorers in Europe.
We have Gomez who is scoring in Mexico. Wondo who is scoring in MLS with young dudes like MacInerney and Agudelo.
it’s not enough. We need our young boys scoring in Europe. Whether the Dutch league or Danish league or Turkish league. we need them now
Boyd. In other words, all USMNT forwards.
“only on 11” premier league goals… somebody got spoiled last season.
Andrew Wooten scored another two goals today, game winner and insurance goal.
Lets play the new fun guessing game!!! How many of these guys get the “dress but didnot play” and “did not dress” this week.
I’ll go with 22 DBDNP & 17 DND.
your quite the optimist
You guys take this a little too seriously.
