The SBI Show: Episode 33 (with special guest Tim Howard)

Tim Howard of Everton

By IVES GALARCEP

At a time when the biggest news in international soccer centers around the changing of the guard at Manchester United, there is nobody better to offer a close-up perspective on that subject and much more for American soccer fans than Tim Howard.

One of the few players to play for both Alex Ferguson and David Moyes, Howard is our guest on Episode 33 of the SBI Show. Howard discusses Moyes’ departure from Everton, tells us the differences and similarities between Moyes and Ferguson, and let’s us know about his own future at Everton.

We also chat with Howard about his strong run of form since returning from a back injury (six shutouts in eight matches) and about the U.S. Men’s National Team’s busy summer ahead.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss MLS Week 11, as well as the exploits of the rest of the Americans Abroad.

Be sure to give the show a listen after the jump:

  1. Beer on draft is not higher than 4% alcohol. But you can order full strenghth beer from the bottle menu. Check out Epic for some tasty ales! 😉

  2. Ives–

When you were in Utah, did you buy your “case” of beer from a convenience store or grocery store? If you buy from a liquor store (which are all state operated) or are drinking at a bar, it’s not lower alcohol content than elsewhere. A lot of Utah’s liquor laws were changed in anticipation of the 2002 Winter Olympics in SLC, and that’s one of them. In fact, you should come check out how good the local breweries are here now: Squatters, Wasatch, Uinta, Bohemian, Epic…there’s some fantastic (full strength) beer being brewed in Utah these days. There’s even an incredibly good whiskey distillery in Park City (High West).

Come to Utah and I’ll be happy to show you how wrong you are about Utah’s drinking culture.

    Best,

    Chris

  3. Ives, with Conor Doyle’s contract expiring at Derby, do you see him returning to the states, or moving down to League One?

  4. Howard, unlike Brad, does not have an English accent! Did you use your Jersey connections to get this interview?

    • Tim and I go back to 1998 MetroStars days, when we both started our careers in pro soccer (him as a rookie goalkeeper, me as a rookie pro sports writer). Jersey connections are always a good thing.

  5. Every time there is an article about Tim Howard, I make sure to click on it because I see that photo of him and I pretend that he is attempting to give me a high five…and in that moment I am finally happy.

    • Howard is not anywhere good enough for Man United at this point in time. Maybe three years ago.

Felliani, Baines, and Ludstrum are potential targets though

  6. I know this is a really small issue, but is there any way to compress the files just a touch to get them below the 50 MB limit? I have to use mobile data to download (can’t link to my work network) and would love to have the podcast for evening workouts or the ride home but you can’t download over the wireless on Verizon if the file is >50MB.

I love it, though, keep it up.
