Between some memorable MLS matches, the final weekend of the European season, and the continued analysis of the U.S. Men’s National Team roster, there was plenty to discuss on the latest episode of The SBI Show.

Episode 35 features discussion on everything from the Red Bulls-Galaxy match and the Sounders-FC Dallas shootout, to the final weekend in Europe’s top leagues.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also take some time to discuss the U.S. Men’s National Team’s roster for June’s qualifiers, and Jurgen Klinsmann’s explanations for those decisions.

Here is Episode 35 of The SBI Show:

What did you think of the show? Buying Klinsmann’s explanations for some of his roster decisions? Think the Seattle Sounders are for real now?

  1. Just listened to the last podcast…. Don’t hate on Bangkok.

Bangkok is a fine city. You don’t have to go to the red light district or go to Khaosan road to Backpacker central. The problem is… its a City. All cities in the modern world are ultimately the same.

Next time you go to Thailand. Go to an Island(Ko Mak), scuba dive, eat spicy food, and Avoid westerners.

    • Problem was I enjoyed Cambodia a lot more. Bangkok was just eh for me. The rest of Thiland, Chiang Mai and Phuket was nice

      • Hah, I can understand. It’s kinda a hard place to live or visit. I just have a tendency to defend it as used to live there and…. I figure its reputation is bad enough.

      • I dunno, I just find unless your are somewhere like Rome or London the cities aren’t distinctive. They tend to blend together as you walk past KFCs and BMWs. Even in Hong Kong you can turn a corner and end up at Disneyland.
Mind you thats not why you go to these cites but for most cities It is very hard to find more than 1 day of truly special things to do there.
Globalization makes me feel that the more Modern a city is… the more Standardized a city is.

  2. Weren’t we promised a more attractive and attacking style of football when Klinsmann took over? Clearly that hasn’t happened. Now he has resorted to taking shots at players that haven’t seen USMNT action in almost 3 years for having a bit of flair in their game. Leave Adu alone, if he turns it around great but insulting him isn’t the solution

  3. I don’t understand why Klinsmann feels he needs to take little jabs at certain players.

Freddy Adu is just trying to do his thing in Brasil. Shouldn’t a coach be happy that a young talent looks set to get significant minutes in a top 10 league in the world?

The last time I looked the USMNT offense is need of some flair type of players.

    • If you listen carefully to what Ives said JK never mentioned Adu by name.

He was talking about players ( specifically Holden) who play simply versus players who over elaborate, a topic that is older than at least everyone who posts on SBI

The fact that you and Ives thought of Adu when JK said that says a lot more about Adu than it does about JK.

  4. I would like to say — without sounding hypercritical, because I do enjoy and appreciate the show! — that I think you should look into whatever the issues may be with Garrett Cleverly’s mic levels. Dunno if it’s his approach or mechanical issues or something in production or what, but whereas Ives’ and guests’ levels even on phone interviews seem to be pretty steady, Cleverly’s seems to jump from fading out to booming/distortef and back again, without notice. Makes it all hard to listen to and follow as you have to have your thumb on the volume control all the time. Or at least I do. Just my $.02 worth! Otherwise it’s quite good stuff and I like it.

    • It an ego thing. Ives doesn’t allow anyone to sound as loud as him so no one forgets whose name is on the website. Also, Ives accepts no less than 75% of the airtime for himself.
