When it became clear a week ago that the Houston Dynamo would be without starting centerbacks Bobby Boswell (suspension) and Jermaine Taylor (injured), their looming trip to Sporting Park to take on Sporting KC suddenly looked like too tall a task.

Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall had other ideas, turning in the kind of effort that reminded us why he has been called in as part of the U.S. Men’s National Team upcoming World Cup qualifying set-up.

Hall made four important saves to keep Sporting KC from taking all three points on Sunday, but he couldn’t keep out Kei Kamara’s second-half equalizer as the Dynamo and Sporting played to a 1-1 draw in the latest installment of one of the league’s budding rivalries.

The Dynamo looked primed for an upset win when they took a 1-0 lead just before halftime courtesy of a Brad Davis finish off a quality pass from Will Bruin. That game came soon after the match official waived off an initial penalty call against Sporting KC for what replays showed was a clean tackle from Uri Rosell.

Peter Vermes brought on Kamara in the second half and he paid dividends soon after, heading home a Claudio Bieler pass to tie the match.

Sporting pressed for a winner, but Hall kept the match tied and left the Eastern Conference foes with a point each.

Here are the match highlights:

  1. I thought the Orange played well but they still have inconsistant play. They need a midfielder who can distribute the ball and they need Bruin or Barnes to hold the ball in the middle. Most of the second half was played in the Dynamo end of the pitch. I think Cummings whenever he gets healthy, will be a huge addition to the attack. Still, they are missing a top flight player. Montreal went out and got those Italian stars and look where they are in the standings. They need an experienced player or two. Still, it was a fast paced game and a tie is better than a loss.

  2. I would think a bigger story here is the penalty call overturned by the ref. It was a pretty terrible call to make, but at least he got it right after conferring with the linesman. Yet again, inconsistent reffing all around and a lot of questionable calls (shocking right?)

What game was this? Didn’t Kamara finish a strike distance?
