RSC Anderlecht took a giant step towards repeating as Pro League champions on Thursday with a 4-2 victory over Lokeren and Sacha Kljestan was the player who helped get things started for his club.

Kljestan scored the opener in Anderlecht’s road win over Lokeren, heading the ball home from close range to end a well-worked set piece in the 25th minute. The goal was the first of four straight that Anderlecht scored before they surrendered two late and it gave Kljestan his fourth tally across all competitions this season.

The victory now puts Anderlecht in a prime position to repeat, as they sit on 48 points heading into the final round of the Belgian playoffs this weekend. Anderlecht does, however, have to host second-place Zulte-Waregem (46 points) on Sunday so they will need at least a draw to capture the Belgian title for a second straight year.

Here is Kljestan’s goal:

What do you think of Kljestan’s goal? Think Anderlecht will repeat as champions? Expecting them to get a tough match from Zulte-Waregem on Sunday?

    • In central midfield?

I think we have a better chance of seeing Bradley in goal, and Kljestan as the fourth official.

      • Holy cow… It’s not THAT far fetched… There were articles about such a pairing before the recent qualifier in Mexico. That was when Jermaine Jones took a knock, but it’s clearly not 100% out of the idea…

      • Short memory? That was the go to pairing early in the last cycle before Kljestan had a transfer blocked by MLS. He then cut his hair and promptly lost his mojo. Check out the line up from dos y cero 2009.

    • klinsmann seems to like to bring Kljestan on in the second half. Not sure kljestan is good enough to break into the starting lineup.

      • Klinsmann is not so fond of Belgium and takes it out on Kljestan much like Altidore and the Eredivisie.

      • We have two scrubs rotting in the Bundesliga but they get called in regardless of playing or not or injured.

      • I could argue with you about Danny (Hot/Cold) Williams. Not sure Parkhurst (You mean the guy led his team to the UEFA CL) fits by any definition. He does not have a high ceiling but he is steady and plays within himself. I honestly can’t think of a single MAJOR mistake in the USMNT shirt. Can you?

    • Definitely Onyewu. If Anderlecht take the league cup, Kljestan will have more hardware, but Onyewu won league best XI twice and best foreign player award once. I don’t think Kljestan is anywhere close to winning those awards.

      • This brings back so many sore feelings. Gooch was so solid for Standard he parlayed it into a move to AC Milan only to see his career derailed by injury after injury. That’s why any time someone whines about wanting our players at bigger clubs I think of Onyewu and die a little inside.

      • He got injured playing for the US. So you should die a little inside when you see our players done the red, white, and blue!

    • …while that wouldn’t be the worst thing that ever happened to him I would like to think we all hope he can still move to a better club in a larger league…

  1. Wow, what an important final game. You don’t often see 1 v. 2 squaring off on the final matchday with everything on the line. Wish the game was televised.
