Taking advantage of a rare starting opportunity, San Jose Earthquakes rookie forward showed why he might deserve a regular place in the team.

Jahn played all 90 minutes and lead his team to a 2-2 draw with the Montreal Impact, earning him this week’s SBI MLS Rookie of the Week. It’s the second time this season that Jahn has won the award.

Jahn scored one goal as the Earthquakes came back from two goals down, and nearly scored another in the first half when he hit the crossbar. The 15th overall selection in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft has now scored three goals this season, including two in the last three matches. Honorable mentions for this week’s award include LA Galaxy defender Greg Cochrane, Colorado Rapids midfielder Dillon Powers, and Real Salt Lake forward Devon Sandoval.

What did you make of Jahn’s performance against the Impact? Which rookie impressed you the most in MLS Week Ten?

  1. Great to see Jahn’s improvement. He’s come a long way since preseason. Regarding Lenny, he is still the best target forward the Quakes have. I didn’t have a problem with anything he did up until the Chivas game. The double foot drag was obvious, he completely lost the plot and was rightfully punished for it. His antics mask the fact that he is actually a very good skilled player. I believe the emergence of Jahn will make Lenny clean it up…there is only a certain amount of playing time to go around at forward, with Wondo, Lenny, Gordo and now Jahn and also Marcus Tracy. Nobody is going to do anything to limit their ability to compete for minutes.

  2. I agree that Jahn has a lot of potential am glad he is showing flashes of it. As an ardent Quakes fan, I am not enamored of the way Lenhart plays. That style of play is not how I want my team to win.

Not a fan of how Lenhart or Gordon play…but they do have a history of getting results for the club. And results are what matter most in a professional league. Hopefully MLS will get beyond the point where the Lenhart’s & Gordon’s of the world succeed….but it’s still at least 5 yrs away.

  3. Jahn brings a lot of the physical presence Gordon and Lenhart bring with a lot less controversy. His movement in and around the box is quite good, though he seems more likely to score with his foot than his head. With some polishing he could easily jump his veteran teammates in the pecking order.

  4. I am really liking what I see out of Jahn, and he’s only going to get better once the Open Cup and CCL starts getting him more minutes.
