Unceremoniously, D.C. United waved goodbye to midfielder Marcos Sanchez on Friday.

The Panamanian, on-loan in the U.S. capital from Tauro FC in Panama, had his deal terminated by Ben Olsen while Sanchez is away on international duty. The recent signing of Sainey Nyassi lead to speculation that Sanchez’s disappointing time at D.C. United was up.

The 23-year-old made nine appearances this season, six of them in the starting 11, but failed to score a goal or help D.C.’s struggling attack.

What do you make of the news? Do you believe this is the right move by D.C. United?

  1. in a way i’m glad to see some accountability at the club (hopefully GM & head coach are next)

but I wish we had a better staff cause he could probably be developed into a decent player

DC is so dysfunctional we can only accept finished products…no projects

  2. DC United front office continues to juggle great white sharks blindfolded while riding a unicycle over a tight rope through the Himalayas.

  3. Nyassi has a track record of success in MLS. Sanchez seemed to be a bit put off by the physical side of the game. He also wasn’t a great passer of the ball, and for a wing player, that’s a serious weakness.

  4. I actually really liked him and thought he had moments when you could see there was more to his game. Making the jump to MLS takes time. Just look how patient Fergie was to full internationals who came to United.

I especially prefer a 23 year old to the older Nyassi. But this is yet another veteran over youth decision by Benny. Soon we’ll field a team with an average age of 30.

Nyassi is not significantly better than Sanchez. So what’s the point?

    • Nyassi is only 24 according to DCU’s website and comparing Man United’s set up to DC’s is a stretch. The Red Devils have a litte bit more $ to play around with.

      • I could have sworn he was older. Oops. Then at 24, I hold my tongue about the decision and will eat my crow solemnly.

    • Sanchez’ decision-making was simply horrible. While he can dribble with the ball, he frequently dribbled into trouble. Could that be worked on? Probably, but he wasn’t so great in other areas, either. His finishing isn’t good — he blew some great chances. I’ll give him credit for being in position to take the chances, but he needed to do better. Not that I think Sainey Nyassi is any great shakes. I’m hoping we’ll see better in the summer window.
