Fresh off a long time away from Portland while with the Costa Rica squad for friendly matches and World Cup qualifiers, Rodney Wallace has hit the ground running upon his return.

The 25-year-old left winger assisted on all three of the Portland Timbers goals as they took care of the Colorado Rapids, 3-0, on Sunday evening, earning Wallace SBI MLS Player of the Week.

Wallace not only provided the primary assist on all three of Portland’s goals, he also covered a ton of ground defensively on the left flank and helped set the tone for a dominating team performance.

Wallace beat out Timbers teammate Will Johnson, Philadelphia Union forward Conor Casey, Vancouver Whitecaps maestro Camilo, and Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Wallace’s performance? Which player stood out to you in MLS Week 17?

  1. The rodwall played defense for Spencer’s timbers. Talk about a total misuse. It’s kinda like putting Zizzo at left D, the shoe don’t fit Caleb!

  2. Pontius for DCU if only because he has the dubious honor of not only scoring for the first time all season, but snapping DCU’s losing streak.

      • Agreed Port J.

Up until just a couple months ago, many Timbers fans sill thought we got the short end of that one. Something has really clicked with Wally this season. He is both being used by Porter to his strengths and he is just a much more mature player. He drove me nuts under Spenny and GW – was always a ball of arms and legs flailing about and chasing the play. This season, he has been a big asset and consistently so. Hats off to Wally!!
