The Chicago Fire are starting to heat up, and this past week showed just how different a team they are now compared to the struggling squad they were when the season began.

The Fire pulled off a pair of wins last week, coming back in each game, to continue their climb up the MLS Eastern Conference standings. Their come-from-behind victories against Colorado and Chicago helped earn the Fire SBI MLS Team of the Week honors.

Led by Mike Magee’s two game-winners, the Fire have closed the gap on the playoff teams in the East and now sit just five points behind the playoff pack, with a game in hand on most of the teams ahead of them.

The Fire beat out the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Fire’s performances last week? What MLS team impressed you the most in Week 17?

  1. He is a gamer, he’s at the right place at the right time. He is also a leader demanding perfection. Also works the officials in a respectful manner. He is in the right place with the Fire, wished we had him from the beginning of the season.

  2. I think you mean come from behind victories against Colorado and Columbus. Often times the Fire do beat themselves, but this past week was not one of those times.

  3. It’s about time the Fire started playing this season! They were a good team missing a couple pieces who have been filled in with the recent acquisitions. Should be interesting.

  4. I always believed Magee was overrated at LA. I thought he was simply in the right spot because of the players playing around him. Hard to not score when those guys are playing you in. That all changed when he came here to us in Chicago. He is everywhere on the field. Demanding attention and in return giving others space to play in. With MacDonald on the field, their center backs could leave him alone because he was either offside or trapping the ball further than Logan Pause could kick it. 6 in 6 for Magee and the only way he looks like it will stop is if Fankie rests him tomorrow against Orlando.

  5. Just watch. Chicago will go on to win MLS Cup on a Magee brace and LA will get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. It’ll be MLS’ very own curse of the Bambino.

Young team in the midst of “rebuilding” and now they’ve won 4 of their last 5, beat a surging Sounders team, and tied for first in the West? They have my vote.
