A rain-out, a season-ending injury to another starter, and a bus ride back to Columbus from Chicago had taken its toll on the Columbus Crew. Or so we thought.

The Crew rebounded from a midweek defeat in the U.S. Open Cup to beat first-place Montreal Impact, 2-0, at Crew Stadium on Saturday, earning them SBI MLS Team of the Week. Dominic Oduro scored the second goal and assisted on the opener by Matias Sanchez. The win moved the Crew to within two points of a playoff spot.

The Crew beat out the Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps, and San Jose Earthquakes for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Crew’s performance? What team impressed you in MLS Week 16?

  1. Crew were greatly aided by the return from injury of Marshall, Williams, Anor and O’Rourke. Williams is actually better at center back so they may survive the loss of Glauber if they can get decent play at the outside positions. The offense looked surprisingly good, and of course fortune was on their side for a change. This is the first win they have had against a team with a respectable record, and they have otherwise underachieved all season, so they need to prove this game is the real them rather than the one in Philadelphia or most of the others.

  2. Finally they are scoring goals and are taking advantage of mistakes committed by the opponent. Inconsistent play continues to haunt this team though.
