SBI MLS Best XI: Week 19

Magee

By IVES GALARCEP

Robbie Keane and Mike Magee are no longer teammates, but for this week, they are partnered up top on the SBI MLS Best XI.

Keane was the driving force behind both of the Los Angeles Galaxy’s wins last week, while Magee continued his goal-scoring ways for the Chicago Fire, netting scores in each of the Fire’s two matches last week.

Brad Knighton stole the show with the best single-game performance of the past week, while Colorado’s Chris Klute continues to impress as one of the many overachievers on the Rapids squad.

Here is how the rest of the SBI MLS Best XI shook out for Week 19:

  1. Disappointed to not even see Jose Goncalves get an Honorable Mention here. If anyone watched the Revs game they would tell you that the reason Shuttleworth only had to make two saves all night was because of the always intimidating presence of Jose in the center of the defense outpowering Alan Gordon and Adam Jahn time and time again

  2. I think Joe Willis would have won the keeper slot most weeks, but I disagree about Ethan White’s inclusion this week. He is still a stone cold destroyer out there, but this week his usually reliable touch deserted him and he had several bad give aways. Part of the reason that Willis had to be so good to earn the shutout.

  3. I definitely see klute getting called to the national team within a few years. Regarding Shane O’Neil being honorable mention, that’s surprising considering he only played a half. But it was a very good half…

  4. With the USMNT’s lack of depth at left back, any chance Chris Klute gets a call from JK anytime soon? He has great speed and does a good job of getting forward and knocking in crosses. Seems to be as good as (though probably better than) Beasley when it comes to 1 v 1 defending.

  5. Hard to ignore Josh Saunders for honorable mention as well. His late save vs. Le Toux was priceless for RSL’s midweek draw.

  6. As Dynamo fan, I thought Amobi Okugo had a better game than Jermaine Talyor. Taylor played LB so I guess you just moved to his normal position.
