In a week with few goals, MLS Week 21 saw a pair of rookies enjoy standout performances to make somewhat surprising appearances on the SBI MLS Best XI.

Just days after being named to the MLS All-Star Team, Seattle rookie DeAndre Yedlin  made his first MLS goal an impressive equalizer, netting in the Sounders’ 1-1 draw vs. the Colorado Rapids. Los Angeles Galaxy rookie Gyasi Zardes gave a glimpse of his greatness on Saturday, as he scored a winner to help the Galaxy halt red-hot Vancouver, and do so without injured Robbie Keane and Gold Cup-participant Landon Donovan.

Yedlin’s goal didn’t stop the Rapids from having a pretty good week accumulating four points from two matches, and the tandem of Drew Moor and Nathan Sturgis was key to Colorado’s sucess last week.

Here is how the rest of the SBI MLS Best XI for Week 21 shakes out:

    • Yes cause a DP not making the SBI team of the week for one week means the entire program is a massive failure, might as well get rid of it now.

    • Let’s be real, were DP’s ever really supposed to make a team that much better by signing them? It’s a way to get people in the seats, which isn’t bad. But most of the time, not all, the DP’s are only marginally better than much lower priced talent because we get them way past their expiration date. I’m not against DP’s at all, but I’m not surprised they aren’t lighting up the league either.

  1. As a Rapids fan, no way Sturgis beat out Alonso for best of the week. Alonso had a great game. Hendry Thomas played better than Sturgis.

  2. Thought this was one of Yedlin’s more complete games on the year. He tracked back well and did not seem to give away any great chances which has been a concern. As always he added quite a bit in attack, in fact in the first half he was probably the more dangerous player going forward for the Sounders.

  3. IMHO Collin was better than Opara of the two SKC centerbacks, and does not even get a mention…

It was Collin’s flick to Bieler while on the ground in the box that led to his assist of Saad’s goal to tie RSL 1-1. And Collin made some clutch plays, one on one with the speedy Plata.

    My two cents 🙂
