The Vancouver Whitecaps had never won a Cascadia Cup match before Saturday, never beaten either the Seattle Sounders or Portland Timbers since joining Major League Soccer.

That drought finally ended, and Brad Knighton was a key reason for that.

The Whitecaps goalkeeper made seven saves, many of the outstanding variety, to help keep Seattle off the board and lead the Whitecaps to a 2-0 victory. A win that helped Knighton earn SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Knighton beat out a list of worthy candidates that included Robbie Keane, Bernardo Anor and Mike Magee for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Knighton’s performance? What MLS player impressed you the most in Week 19?

  1. He had 4 (2 double saves) saves minimum worthy of Save of the Week and is singly the reason the ‘Caps won…So yes JkR he did play like “the love child of Spiderman and Gumby”…..

    • Seriously, a GK won and Willis didn’t make the top 3? Knighton must have played like the love child of Spiderman and Gumby…

      • Knighton made four tremendous saves, including a great double save at the top of the 18. I also watched the United game, Willis had a good game but didn’t steal a win for his team.
