Davies and Randers FC placed in Europa League third qualifying round

Just minutes after the conclusion of Friday morning’s UEFA Champions League third qualifying round draw, the Europa League had a third round draw of their own.

The qualifying round could feature up to three Americans, as Charlie Davies and Randers FC were drawn while Rosenborg BK (Mix Diskerud) and Hapoel Tel Aviv (Bryan Gerzicich) still have to earn their place in the third round. Teams will play their third round games on August 1 and August 8.

Rosenborg currently trails, 1-0, on aggregate against St. Johnstone and Hapoel Tel Aviv leads Beroe of Bulgaria, 4-1, on aggregate in the second qualifying round.

Notable teams also drawn in the round include Sevilla of La Liga, Stuttgart of the Bundesliga, and Swansea City of the English Premier League.

    • In fairness to Charlie (and if my memory is correct), I recall seeing a lot of <5 minute cameos for him in the summaries from last season. 23 appearances sounds like a lot, but I bet total minutes played was real low. With that said, there is probably a good reason he wasn't seeing a lot of time . . . that is an issue to itself.

  1. I watched him play against Aalborg a few months ago (he started, that’s why I thought it was worth watching). His touch was poor, and he wasn’t able to muscle defenders off. Sadly, the CD9 that was powering through the heart of Mexican defense at Azteca is probably not coming back.
