In what could start to become a pipeline of talent, Sporting Kansas City are interested in another Honduran midfielder.

Honduras National Team member Jorge Claros is reported to be on the radar of head coach Peter Vermes when looking to bolster his midfield ahead of a heavy MLS schedule joined with the CONCACAF Champions League. According to reports in Honduras, Claros’ club Motagua is currently negotiating with Sporting KC over the transfer of the 27-year-old.

Claros returned to Motagua this summer after spending last season on loan in Scotland with Hibernian. During his time at this summer’s Gold Cup, Claros scored one goal in five games for Honduras, the lone goal coming in a 1-0 victory over El Salvador.

Here are some more notes from around the MLS Eastern Conference:

HOUSTON DYNAMO

Geoff Cameron’s return to Houston didn’t go exactly as he had planned.

The Houston Dynamo hosted Cameron and Stoke City on Wednesday night in the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup, beating the English Premier League side, 2-0. Both Dynamo goals were scored by British players, first Andrew Driver and then the second coming from Giles Barnes.

Cameron’s fellow U.S. Men’s National Team player Maurice Edu traveled along with Stoke City squad but wasn’t included in the match-day squad.

NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

The difficult season for Juan Agudelo isn’t getting easier as the MLS season continues.

Due to a number of injuries, the 20-year-old forward has made just five appearances for the New England Revolution since joining the club in May from Chivas USA. Agudelo’s last match for the Revolution came in a U.S. Open Cup loss to D.C. United at the end of June, and it’s kept him out of his team’s last five MLS matches.

Revolution head coach Jay Heaps says that while Agudelo’s most recent injury, a knee sprain, is healing well, Heaps isn’t sure yet when the youngster will return to the field. Agudelo isn’t expected to be available for the MLS match this Saturday against D.C. United.

MONTREAL IMPACT

On Tuesday, the Montreal Impact welcomed back to practice designated player Marco Di Vaio.

The forward was away for the past week due to personal reasons, missing the Impact’s match against FC Dallas last Saturday that ended as a scoreless draw, extending the Impact’s winless streak to five games.

With Di Vaio back and likely to fit into the Impact lineup for their next match, Andrew Wenger will likely return to the bench.

PHILADELPHIA UNION

Zac MacMath’s career with the Philadelphia Union has had it’s ups and downs, but without much notice, he’s broken a new MLS record.

The Union goalkeeper’s shutout against the Portland Timbers last Saturday was the 17th of his career, passing Bill Hamid of D.C. United for the most shutouts by an MLS goalkeeper before the age of 22.

This season alone, the 21-year-old MacMath has six shutouts in 21 games played, all starts.

COLUMBUS CREW

Like Real Salt Lake, Costa Rica’s loss to Honduras on Sunday in the Gold Cup was good news for the Columbus Crew.

Forward Jairo Arrieta, who has missed time during the season to a number of international call-ups, is back with the Crew squad in practice this week, and is likely to start on Saturday against Toronto FC.

Arrieta only has two goals this season in 12 games played.

D.C. UNITED

D.C. United head coach Ben Olsen’s job certainly wasn’t made easier last Saturday in Chicago when Dwayne De Rosario was ruled out due to a minor hip injury.

The good news for Olsen is that this week, De Rosario has returned to training, leaving him open to selection for D.C. United’s upcoming match on Saturday against the New England Revolution. De Rosario has struggled this season mightily along with D.C. United, scoring just two goals in 13 games, and he’s missed the last three matches.

CHICAGO FIRE

Although he struggled for most of the season, Chicago Fire midfielder Joel Lindpere caught fire at just the right time.

The Fire, who have been playing better since the acquisition of Mike Magee, ran riot over D.C. United last Saturday, and Lindpere played an integral role, scoring one goal and assisting on two others. The goal was the Estonian’s first of the season, and the assists now take his league total to five on the season.

In his three seasons with the New York Red Bulls, Lindpere scored 15 total goals.

Comments

  1. Feel bad for Juan Agudelo.

Not only is he persistently injured but he has become so remote to everyone’s concern (MLS/USMNT) that, almost a day into this posting, notice of his most recent setback has generated NO comments…until now.

  2. I think out of the whole tournament, if i was an mls team, id try to get rodolfo zelaya from el salvador. Good player and can be even better with some seasoning and better coaching

    • I would love too see any of the following in MLS; Luis Montes, Zalaya, Bedoya, Mix, Orozco, Torres, Castillo, JGarcia (HON), OChavez, Torres (PAN)

      • Well Mix was going to come to Portland but didn’t after he learned the league would own his contract not the timbers.

  3. Hopefully Sarkodie, Moffat, and Rico, can put out Joel Lindpere’s fire this weekend.

I’ll be glad to see the Dynamo back in league action after their bye.
