Terrence Boyd and Rapid Vienna surely were not expecting to start off their season like this.

Vienna got off to a poor start in their new campaign, being eliminated via a penalty shootout by third division club LASK Linz in the first round of the Austrian Cup on Sunday. The game ended scoreless after regulation and extra-time and Vienna ultimately lost, 5-4, in penalty kicks.

Boyd came off the bench in the 75th minute of the road match, playing 45 minutes and converting the spot kick he took during the shootout.

Vienna and Boyd will try to make amends for the surprise defeat on Saturday, as they open their 2013-14 Bundesliga campaign with a road fixture against Wolfsberger AC.

What do you think of Vienna’s loss to LASK Linz? Surprised? Think this means Boyd and Vienna are in store for a rough season?

    • Think that’s an old picture. Boyd tweeted a picture of their new kit recently, plus him/EJ/Edu all dyed their hair blonde!

  1. Boyd NEEDS to have a monster season and then get sold to a club in a bigger league, if not Bundesliga then Eridivisie or Juliper…

  2. A shame but it happens. He has a 3 year deal this is sort of a make or break season. Would love to see him score 20 this year. Get an extension and then get sold to a better team either in that league or a better league. As long as he keeps playing.
