For the third time in as many seasons, Conor O’Brien has found a new club to call home.

Odense Boldklub, commonly known in Denmark as OB, acquired the 24-year-old American midfielder on Saturday, announcing that they O’Brien had signed a contract through June 30, 2015. He will wear the No. 14 shirt.

“We are excited to add another strong player for our squad,” OB Sporting Director Jesper Hansen said in a statement on the club’s website. “Conor O’Brien is a talented, hard-working midfielder who has a great experience in the (Danish) Superliga. Now we look forward to him fighting for a place in the OB squad.”

Until Saturday, O’Brien was a member of Danish club FC Nordsjælland, helping lead the team to a second-place finish in the Superliga last season and a place in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Unfortunately for O’Brien, his team were routed, 6-0, on aggregate by Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg. After being dropped into this season’s Europa League qualifiers, Nordsjælland again failed to beat their opposition, as Swedish side Elfsborg town the Danish club down, 2-1, on aggregate.

O’Brien’s new club OB is currently in third place in the league table. The Long Island native won’t play his most recent club until December 7, the final match day before the long winter break. O’Brien however will be able to play another former club, SønderjyskE, where he played 2011 and 2012, on October 19.

“I am very happy to switch to OB,” O’Brien said on the club’s website. “I scored my first Superliga in Odense, and now I look forward to many more experiences. Before signing the contract, I met with (head coach) Troels Bech and I’m really looking forward to playing under him.”

  1. he’s 177cm. average height is 182 which is just shy of 6 feet. O’Brien is average height for an American but just short considering many 6’2-6’6 guys u see in that league

  2. he couldnt find a role in the starting XI. it happens. FCN has probably 2nd or 3rd best team in Denmark. Odense is probably 5th. He will be a starter there. Dude probably knows a biy of danish by now

    • FCN are a show of themselves and many of their tops players were poached by others or headed out the door soon. It happens when a club that size has success. I won’t say FCN are on a downward spiral but they are no where near as good as they were. O’Brien is going to a much better situation as they have an exciting attack minded team. I think he will play and will play often.

  3. Good luck to him. Hope he gets into the starting 11 and makes a tangible contribution to OB’s. place in the Liga table. Ives – Curious as he was just at FCN for a season (or not even a full season-?) so what’s the context here… FCN shedding players, O’Brien not meshing with or delivering for the team, mutually agreed departure..?

    • FC Nordsjælland have signed much too many players the past year and have now let several of them go for free… their Director of football has btw also been sent on “vacation” due to stress they say..
