He may be just 18 years old, and just two months removed from finishing high school, but Paul Arriola has wasted no time making an impact on the professional soccer scene.

The Club Tijuana rookie is off to a dream start for the Xolos, registering assists in the team’s first two league matches of the season, and earning a start in Tijuana’s CONCACAF Champions League opener.

Arriola is our guest for Episode 62 of The SBI Show, and he talks to us about his rapid rise at Club Tijuana, his early success and how it has been settling in as the latest American to play for the Xolos.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss a busy summer transfer window for American players, with the latest on Charlie Davies’ return to MLS, Alejandro Bedoya’s move to France, and the latest on Juan Agudelo’s move to Stoke City.

We also take a look back at the U.S. Open Cup semifinals, and look ahead to MLS Week 24.

  1. Ives…. nice interview. Hope to see more of these in the future… really adds another dimension to what is already a great show.

Hard to imagine a better situation for a young player than what Arriola has right now. Maintaining the stability of family and friends… home cooked meals to keep ones feet on the ground while also having playing time with a quality side with great atmosphere/soccer culture etc. Think this bodes well for his development and the prospect of him meeting his potential. Sounds like he has a great attitude to match. Look forward to watching him w/ Xolos and perhaps sometime in the future…. representing USA.

Keep up the good work Ives, Garrett……….. and Paul.
