Irish striker Robbie Keane returned from injury ahead of schedule to help the Los Angeles Galaxy stun Italian champions Juventus, 3-1, in International Champions Cup action at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night.
Keane came on at halftime with the match tied and promptly made an impact, setting up Landon Donovan’s eventual game-winning goal in the 60th minute before adding his own insurance strike in the 88th minute.
The victory secures the Galaxy a place in the ICC Third Place match in Miami on Wednesday.
The Galaxy played with their top stars together for the first time in more than a month, with Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez joining Keane in Saturday’s action.
Here are the match highlights:
Congrats LA. For winning, you get to fly across the country for a meaningless match!
Flying cross country with two days rest to play the Carolina Railhawks in the Open Cup is somewhat meaningless compared to flying cross country to play Valencia from LA Liga for THIRD Place (not 5th) when the two teams in front of you (who later on that night) are Chelsea and Real Madrid. Meaningless? No. It adds cache to the Galaxy name. When your included in the same sentence as Chelsea and Real Madrid to the hundreds of foreign newspapers and thousands of web pages, who will be publishing the results. it’s got to be good for the club’ worldwide and by extension, the MLS, worldwide reputation.
Some one had on their Thinking cap for this post. The other commentator, not so much.
Strange: where are the Eurosnobs now? Hello??
Are you really thumping your chest about this and declaring LA Is better than Juventus? it was a good win in a friendly nothing more
only as much as the eurosnobs were thumping their chests earlier…what’s the problem Rami? just one way traffic in your world?
we all know it’s a friendly, just like the other games we’ve been watching. thanks for that amazing insight
Not thumping MY chest. I already knew MLS is slowly but surely catching up to the rest of the world. Just wondering why the Eurosnobs aren’t thumping theirs? They were out in full force after Real Madrid’s starters beat the Galaxy reserves the other night.
Soooo when are we trying Omar out at center forward for the USMNT?
Definitely! Pair him up top with Jozy.
It was a nice through ball by Pirlo to Keane.
+1
Beautiful run by Omar on that first goal. Nice finish, too.
THIS.
Well this at least make up for the MLS All-stars performance.
Thorough butt-whooping of Juve. When LA is motivated, they can play some good football. If they can get a playmaker to replace Beckham, this team can be a serious threat in CCL.
Teams in mid-season form are going to be better able to deal with quality teams like this. You can’t expect too much from an All-Star team that only practiced together for 3 days, but sometimes the talent level shows as it did in last year’s Chelsea victory.
Everton also surprised and kept the Madrid game close. Timmy was terrific.
America!

Good showing.
