Move out of the way, Orlando City. There’s a new USL PRO regular season champion in town.

The Richmond Kickers claimed the 2013 regular season title at home on Wednesday night, defeating Orlando City, 2-0, in a battle of the top two teams in USL PRO. Matt Delicate provided both of the goals for Richmond, scoring five minutes apart in the first half off assists by Joseph Ngwenya and Houston Dynamo loanee Brian Ownby.

The Kickers’ win gave them the No. 1 seed for the upcoming playoffs and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. It also ended Orlando City’s two-year run as regular season champions.

What do you think of the Kickers defeating Orlando City for the regular season championship? Do you see Richmond going all the way this year? Think Orlando City will bounce back in the playoffs?

  1. Dwyer must be really good. I saw their game vs. the Hammerheads, the first w/o him I think, and OC looked very pedestrian. I couldn’t understand what all the hype was about. Has Dwyer featured for SKC since he went back?

  2. As a kickers fan, glad Orlando was missing some players…but to say that is ridiculous. Ric was undefeated this year….also knocked off Orlando away earlier this season ending their long unbeaten home record… the city has 2 undefeated soccer clubs now with RVA fc and the kickers!

  3. Sucks seeing Orlando City lose out and miss a chance for a third consecutive USL PRO reg season title. Dom Dwyer could have single handling given the Lions the USL PRO double (reg season & playoffs), but a weak showing from the forwards up top has lead to City to struggle a lot. Hopefully the playoffs spark a different side of Orlando City, so they can lift the USL PRO Championship for a second time in 3 years!! COYL
