SBI MLS Rookie of the Week: Deshorn Brown

DeshornBrown1 (ColoradoRapids)

By DAN KARELL

Winning the Rocky Mountain Cup is no easy task.

Winning it as a rookie is even tougher. Not only did Deshorn Brown win the Rocky Mountain Cup this year, but he scored the first of his side’s two goals in a 2-2 draw with Real Salt Lake, earning the Colorado Rapids the annual trophy. Brown’s efforts in the match earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.

Brown beat out Rapids teammate Dillon Powers, Vancouver Whitecaps forward Kekuta Manneh, and Seattle Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin.

What did you think of Brown’s performance? Which rookie impressed you in MLS Week 23?

Not sure what the criteria are for “rookie”, but surely Conor Doyle’s 1 goal and 1 assist performance off the bench would at least get him considered if he qualified wouldn’t it?

Perhaps because he is a transfer we aren’t calling him a rookie?

My understanding is a rookie is someone in their first professional season. If they’ve played professionally before, they aren’t a rookie even if they’re new to MLS.

That was a great goal, too. Outran and outpushed Borchers to get to the ball and one time it sideways past Rimando. Was disappointed it wasn’t included in MLS’ Goal of the Week.

So he’s a rookie, where is he from? did he enter the league from college or is he an academy product? That kind of info is much more vital than the cup info. he didn’t win the cup. his team did.

He played a year at University of Central Florida, another year before that at University of Mobile. Same program as Sean Johnson, Warren Creavalle (Houston) and Kevan George(Columbus).

“he didn’t win the cup. his team did.”

He did win the cup, the way the language is used (even if you consider that to be unfortunate). There was much talk before the match about how Kyle Beckerman had always won / never lost the cup, for example.
