Liga MX Round 8: A Look Ahead

With three matches between teams in the upper half of the Liga MX table on tap this weekend, there’s sure to be plenty of movers when round eight is all set and done.

One point separates the first-place squad Club America from the seventh-placed team Veracruz, and within that spectrum sees an epic battle set for Friday at the Estadio Corona in Torreon. Santos Laguna host upstart Club Leon in a battle that could send one side shooting up the table and another down.

Oribe Peralta is in fine form for Los Guerreros but on the other side, Leon’s defense has only conceded five goals in seven matches this season, with former New York Red Bull Rafa Marquez leading a veteran defense that includes El Tri members Johnny Magallon and Mexican-American goalkeeper Willy Yarbrough.

Other matches to watch this weekend are third-place Morelia hosting ninth-place Pachuca, fourth-place Cruz Azul facing eighth-place Queretaro and rounding off the weekend of matches is the Clasico Capitalino with Pumas UNAM hosting America, on Monday evening.

  1. I pick Cruz Azul 2-1, Tigres 2-0, Monterey-Atlas Tie 1-1,, TJ 1-0, Puebla, Toluca, and the upset of the week Pumas over hated America.

  2. I think I’m the only one who comments on these Liga MX threads- so I’ll say it again… Thanks for any coverage on this site. I’ve been trying my best to become more and more familiar with our southern Concacaf neighbors as I slowly but surely turn my attention from the continent across the pond to the continent I live on.
    Keep it up, SBI!!
