Season openers in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 and massive preseason finales highlight a busy day of soccer action from all over the world.

After seeing rivals Bayern Munich start their domestic campaign with a win on Friday, Borussia Dortmund will look to get started on the right foot in their opener at Augsburg. The German Super Cup winners had great success last season against Augsburg, a side that just narrowly avoided relegation.

In France, big-spending AS Monaco will kick off their return to Ligue 1 on the road against Bordeaux, an established top-half side in France’s first division. With defending champions Paris Saint-Germain drawing in their opening match of the campaign, Monaco can grab an early lead against their big money rivals in the race for the league title with a win on Saturday.

With just one weekend from the return of the English Premier League and La Liga, several of the leagues’ top sides will close out their preseason campaigns on Saturday. Before Real Madrid-Inter Milan and Chelsea-AS Roma play in the United States, Manchester City-Arsenal and Liverpool-Celtic will start a packed Saturday of friendlies over in Europe.

      • Yeah, I think Parker is pretty locked up with Germany. I think Green is a bit more open to playing for the USA. I read somewhere that he still has pretty strong ties to the US. He seems to have a good relationship with his dad and older brother who both live in Tampa. Honestly, though, who really knows what these kids will decide to do? It is still early for both of them.

  1. I didn’t have Fox Soccer Channel but it miraculously showed up on my TV so it seems that I will have news sports channel. It would be nice to get champions league game again. I miss those. Since I have Comcast I get NBC sports so I am sitting in a good place. The only question. Will I get any work done with all that soccer on TV?

    • Yes, they’ve been playing two previews the last few days. Me is more fluff for EPL beginners and the other is more of a standard season preview. They’re both pretty decent with good production values.

    • Darn Hispanic mothers.Gets the second largest Spanish channel package.Only watches novellas on Univision and Telemundo.Thereby leaving me without NBC sports but with an hd-less GolTV in español,hd-less BeinSport en español.

  2. Fabian Johnson on the bench. Is he getting over a nagging injury, or something? I can’t imagine Hoffenheim benches one of their most consistent performers from the last few seasons.

      • I know that the current fsc channel will turn into a fox movie channel.Suposing you have fsc right now, you’ll have fox sports 1 next week on a dif channel.Seeing as fsc requires you pay for a package and fsp1 will be mainstream ala espn.

      • do you know what will be on FS1? It looks like only champions league to me. makes more sense, at least for me, to get nbc sports, since they will have epl and it will be in HD.

  3. Does anyone know how long GolTV’s contract with the Bundesliga runs? I am really ready to actually see those matches (GolTV isn’t available in my area) without resorting to a cruddy stream. It would seem like, considering the loss of EPL rights and the number of Americans playing there, the Bundesliga would be a great fit for Fox Sports 1/2, ESPN, or both.
