Sporting Kansas City announced on Friday the acquisition of 20-year-old American defender Brendan Ruiz from Brazilian club Figuerense and 19-year-old Colombian midfielder Jimmy Medranda from Deportivo Pereira.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed per team policy, but both acquisitions were completed before Thursday’s MLS transfer deadline.

“We think Jimmy and Brendan are interesting talents and we look forward to seeing them continue to develop in Kansas City,” said Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes in a press release issued by the team.

Medranda and Ruiz will be added to the roster once their P-1 Visas and International Transfer Certificates are finalized.

Medranda, who is officially on loan with Kansas City, will take up an international spot.

Ruiz, a midfielder-turned-defender, spent the last two years with the U-20 squad of Figuerense. Before moving to Brazil, Ruiz played for De Anza Force of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.

Medranda is a youth team product of Deportivo Pereira. He joined the team’s youth program as a 12-year-old and eventually made it to the senior team. Medranda made 19 appearances and scored two goals in the last two seasons for Deportivo Pereira.

  1. So correct me if I’m wrong, but SKC now have a maxed out roster, right?

Definitely good for depth, but the current reserve league format doesn’t leave enough room for the depth guys to get any PT.
