The SBI No. 2-ranked Washington Huskies maintained their unbeaten status over the weekend, but needed some extra time to do it. Led by junior forward Darwin Jones’ second goal of the season, the Huskies beat SMU, 2-1, in double overtime at Husky Soccer Stadium.

In South Bend, Ind., third-ranked Notre Dame received a goal from sophomore midfielder Patrick Hodan, a substitute, in the 88th minute to extend the Fighting Irish’s unbeaten streak to seven matches to start the season.

Travel 222 miles to the east, and you’ll find the scene where UW-Milwaukee sophomore forward Aaron Horvat tied a school and conference record by scoring four goals in a game. The Panthers remained unbeaten, defeating the University of Detroit Titans 5-3.

On the East Coast, Appalachian State snapped Furman’s six-game winning streak, securing a 1-1 draw against the No. 12 Paladins. The Mountaineers scored first in the 27th minute, becoming the first team to score against Furman in seven matches.

New Mexico, in contrast, continues to slide. UC-Davis traveled to Albuquerque and handed UNM a 2-1 loss — despite being outshot 18-4. The Lobos, ranked as high as No. 5 on Sept. 12, are likely to continue their precipitous decline when the next rankings are released.

Dayton and UMBC each won over the weekend to move to 9-0.

Here is a rundown of the weekend’s Top 25 college soccer action:

  1. The University of Delaware is 7-1 so far this season. They haven’t played really tough competition yet, but wonder what it will take to see them ranked in the Top 25?

    • That’s because they were shocking against seton hall. They were up 3-0 at Seton Hall at half, then lost with 6 secs left in double OT 5-4.
