Of the top-five ranked teams in action this weekend, only California No. 2 escaped unscathed, taking a 1-0 decision at Penn State.

Top-ranked Creighton split a pair of double-overtime contests, winning 2-1 Friday night on a goal by senior midfielder Bruno Castro. The North Carolina transfer scored his second game-winning goal as a Bluejay (10/20/12 vs. Bradley) to extend Creighton’s unbeaten streak to start the season.

Sunday, William & Mary redshirt freshman midfielder Jeff Bombelles scored his first career goal in the 107th minute to hand the Bluejays their first loss of the season.

Bradley junior defender Zach Kovacevic scored on a penalty kick in the third minute to give the Braves a 1-0 win at UConn on Saturday. The Naperville, Ill., native scored his first goal to upset the Huskies.

On the West Coast, UCLA notched a goal from junior midfielder Leo Stolz — the first of his career — to defeat UC-Santa Barbara on Friday night and move to 4-0-1 against the Gauchos at Drake Stadium.

  1. Woo, ODU making SBI! Too bad it came after a loss. No shame in losing in double overtime to the number one team in the country, though.

  2. No discussion of UC Irvine?
Taking out Louisville and tying reigning champs, Indiana, on the same weekend….(and both games away from home).
    Zot Zot!
