Not only did returning to Major League Soccer make Clint Dempsey one of the highest paid players in the league, but his stature with the U.S. Men’s National Team has earned him a big-money endorsement deal with Electronic Arts.

EA announced on Monday that they had signed Dempsey to a multi-year endorsement contract, making the Seattle Sounders forward an EA Sports Football Ambassador. Dempsey, who earned his 100th cap in the USMNT’s defeat in Costa Rica last Friday, is making his EA commercial debut in a new GameStop ad for FIFA14 that begins airing on Monday.

“Having been a longtime fan of the EA SPORTS FIFA franchise, I am thrilled to join the FIFA team,” Dempsey said in a statement. “The FIFA games have played an important role in bringing many new fans to soccer in the United States and it’s awesome to partner with the team to continue the great work they’ve already been doing.”

FIFA14 will officially launch in North America on September 24. Despite this news, Javier Hernandez and Lionel Messi have been selected to grace the game’s cover in this region.

  1. This is EXACTLY what we need. Money coming in from other sources. Not enough money in soccer, especially in the US where there are not enough soccer fans, not enough money,

Find a way…to get em paid.

  2. Deals like this can only help soccer especially if it came about due to Dempsey’s move back to the states. If our better players can earn endorsement deals by staying / returning home this diminishes the salary disadvantage that MLS has against other leagues.
