There seemed to be no question that Toronto FC midfielder Jonathan Osorio would be suspended for his actions during the Reds 2-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls last Saturday. The only question was, for how long would he be suspended.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee answered that on Friday, suspending the young midfielder two matches for “endangering the safety of an opponent.” In the 77th minute, Osorio slammed the ball off the head of Red Bulls defender Kosuke Kimura, starting a short melee between players on both teams.

No one was showed a card during the match, but Osorio will now miss his side’s next two matches, home vs. Sporting Kansas City on Saturday and home vs. D.C. United one week later.

In addition to the suspension of Osorio, the league came down on Dax McCarty for his actions in the scuffle, and Jamison Olave for a confrontation with TFC forward Justin Braun just before halftime, fining the two Red Bulls starters an undisclosed amount.

The Committee made one other move on Friday, suspending Montreal Impact sporting director Nick De Santis for one match after the “continued aggressive, confrontational and irresponsible behavior” from De Santis to the officials in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to the Columbus Crew

  1. What about a fine and suspension for that gutless/clueless POS referee? Well maybe I am overreacting, NYRB did get a free kick out of it.
