SAN JOSE, Costa Rica– World Cup qualifying resumes for the U.S. Men’s National Team on Friday and The SBI Show breaks down the pivotal showdown between the U.S. and Costa Rica.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I break down the match-up, taking a close look at the lineup options for U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann as well as the challenge Costa Rica should present in the third meeting of the year between the rivals.

We also take a look at MLS Week 28, including the match-ups between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Colorado Rapids, as well as the New York Red Bulls’ visit to the Houston Dynamo.

  1. Klinsi is on his way to legendary status. Wait. Hear me out.

If he pulls of a win today, he will have won in C.R., won in Jamaica, and won and tied his most recent games at Azteca. No U.S. coach has broken that many Concacaf barriers in such a short time span. He has also made results in Europe a regular thing, as oppose to an exception. He tied Russia and beat Bosnia and Italy. We dropped a bomb in a friendly to Belgium, but they are my dark horse pics for WC finals. He stomped his own nation, Germany. With the prior year’s Brazil and Spain friendlies service as reality checks, it can still be said that he has been so much more successful than his predecessors. I pick the U.S. to win today because Klinsi’s preparation and performance seem limitless. That as to put the wind at his player’s backs. Soccer is the one sport where the underdog has the best chance at an upset, when compared to other sports. That fact is the only reason why I give C.R. even a punchers chance at a result today. Klinsi 3, Costa Rica 0.

nope. arena took us to the world cup quarters, with (in my opinion) a much worse pool. except for *maybe* the non-confed-cup-year gold cup, the only thing that really matters is the world cup; everything else is just preparation. now if we get a great draw, i can see this team maybe reaching the semis, but unless we do, you really can’t say klinsmann has done a better job than arena, if only because he hasn’t had the chance yet.

    • whine whine whine snow snow snow
The the snow only fell when the Ticos had the ball. When the USA had the ball, the sun came out and opened a clear path to the ball.
To have the federation of the country not even assist the visiting team get safely through the airport should actually be a international incident.

      • So making CR team as well as other national squads have to go through regular immigration, customs and TSA screening is also unfair? Why should the US team receive a special treatment when the others don’t and teams coming to the US are treated like all other visitors?
And by the way, US players have historically whined about fields, stadiums and heat. Of course this happened when at the same time the opposing teams played in perfect pitches, beautiful stadiums and nice 70 degree weather.
US has never won in CR. That’s the only true fact right now.
