Coming off a 5-0 thrashing eight days earlier by the Montreal Impact, midfielder Adam Moffat made sure that the Houston Dynamo would come away from Toyota Park with at least one point.

The Scottish-born veteran blasted home a strike in the 90th minute to put his side level and earn a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire. The result however dropped the Dynamo to sixth place in the Eastern Conference, tied with the New England Revolution but trailing on goal difference.

Both club’s goalkeepers needed to be on the top of their match from start to finish. Four minutes into the match, Dynamo forward Will Bruin was put through on goal, but the Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson denied him with a kick save.

In the 35th minute, Dynamo stopped Tally Hall made a close-range save on Fire forward Mike Magee, but Hall could do nothing two minutes later when Magee sent a into the box that took a deflection off Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell to go beyond Hall, in for a goal.

Hall had to come to his side’s rescue once more in the 60th minute, denying the Fire’s Jeff Larentowicz on a long-range chance. In the 73rd minute, Magee nearly gave his side a two-goal advantage with a left footed shot that stung the post and deflected away.

In the 90th minute, the Fire were made to pay for their missed chances when Moffat scored from a tight angle in the box, with hardly any defenders around him, to tie the match. It was Moffat’s third goal of the season, all coming away from BBVA Compass Stadium.

Hall produced a final world-class save, one of his seven on the day, to deny Jalil Anibaba a late game winner for the Fire, diving to his right to save Anibaba’s header off a corner kick.

  1. What a shame…Nyarko fell asleep and allowed Moffat to walk into the box totally unmarked. All he had to do was get in Moffat’s way and not allow a 2v1 to develop. But since Moffat didn’t have the ball Nyarko ignored him. Everyone on the team has to defend…not just the defenders. Those two points would have put the Fire in a playoff position. Basic fundamental soccer…mark your man!!
