Steven Lenhart

By DAN KARELL

Steven Lenhart’s season hasn’t gone exactly to plan, but in another must-win game for the San Jose Earthquakes, Lenhart proved his worth as a big-time goal scorer.

Lenhart bagged a brace to lead the Earthquakes to a stunning win on the road at Real Salt Lake, sending home two powerful headers in the first half in the victory. The 27-year-old forward’s impressive performance has earned him SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Lenhart beat out C.J. Sapong, Giles Barnes, and Camilo Sanvezzo for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Lenhart’s performance? Which player stood out to you in MLS Week 30?

  1. Two brave headers by Lenny- just like many he had last year. agree w/ Neruda that Borchers was either slow, or unwilling to challenge him on both. it’s probably all too little-too late at this point as Chupacabra said, but if some combination of Lenny, Gordon, and Wondo can get on a mini-streak maybe the Quakes finish w/ a winning record, and play spoiler. who knows, we’ve got 4 games all against western conference teams right around us- guaranteed one or two of ’em crack with the pressure.

  2. Well deserved he plays 110% for 100% of the time and it pisses other players off. He is abused in every game he is in but he just keeps getting up.

  3. I have blamed young carlos salcedo for a bunch of defense of miscues for RSL but Borchers got torched by Lenny. Nat is surely on the downside of a good career.

Kriess knows this and NYCFC has to be looking pretty good with all these aging cornerstones for RSL beginning to decline.

  4. SBI MLS Player of the Week honors and a quarter will buy Lenhart 15 minutes of downtown parking.

It isn’t going to get the Earthquakes into the playoffs, though.

    • I find it hard to believe in a city where a two bedroom house is a million dollars that parking is a buck an hour.

Like everyone not in San Jose, I don’t like him.
But Lenhart is fun to root for. Want Salt Lake City to lose ? Lenhart will work his rear off for you.

      • San Jose downtown is not exactly a chic urban cultural mecca. Downtown is pretty meh here. Housing is high because of the good weather and well paying tech jobs. Ridiculous housing prices withstanding, 25 cents will get you a quarter hour in a meter downtown. With a two hour limit.

ps- rooting for Lenny is awesome. He gets in players heads and totally throws them off their game. Except when he does stupid retaliatory stuff. Then it’s embarrassing.
