With no Thierry Henry or Jamison Olave in the New York Red Bulls lineup, midfielder Tim Cahill had even more responsibility on his shoulders, and he came through for his club in a big way.

The designated player, in only his second match back from injury, put in a fine performance that included the game-tying goal in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders on Sunday night. Cahill’s performance in the pouring rain at CenturyLink Field made him an easy choice for SBI MLS Player of the Week.

Cahill beat out Dominic Oduro, Federico Higuain, Mike Magee, and Will Johnson for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Cahill’s performance? Which player stood out to you in MLS Week 31?

While some of his teammates couldn’t be bothered even attending this match, let alone setting foot on a turf field, Tim came through for RBNY once again.

I saw a tweet after the game saying that with the attitude he was giving off the team was essentially his. I think as soon as Henry put himself above the team (ie not flying and at least sitting on the bench for the last 10 if needed) he took himself out of the leader. I would put my faith in Cahill if I was a Red Bull fan.

Great goal and he won a point for them, but player of the week ? Not for me and I didn’t even watch every game.

Maybe you are just trying to swat the wimp Henry in the face…in which case I am all for it.

You should see the grass fields in Seattle right now…lets just say, they are not grass anymore.

Cahill is the Karl Malone of the MLS. He gives it his all regardless of being injured, lack of fans, or poor weather.

Oh the irony. The goal Cahill scored was on a ball passed back to him from Steele who was offside at the time, although the AR did not flag him.
