The MLS playoffs are still more than a month away, but a pair of top-notch match-ups will give MLS Week 31 a post-season feel.

The Seattle Sounders and Los Angeles Galaxy square off in a clash of top title contenders, while the Portland Timbers and Colorado meet in a battle of two of the most surprising teams of the 2013 MLS season.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I discuss all nine matches of MLS Week 31, and also touch on some of the hottest topics around the league, such as the reported interest in Jason Kreis from New York City FC, as well as Toronto FC’s impending hiring of a new general manager.

We also discuss the weekend ahead for Americans Abroad, such as Jozy Altidore and Paul Arriola, and we also talk about Bob Bradley and Egypt’s match-up with Ghana in the African World Cup qualifying playoffs.

Give Episode 71 of The SBI Show a listen after the jump:

What did you think of the show? Agree with our take on the weekend’s top MLS matches? See Altidore scoring his first Premier League goal for Sunderland?

The picture with Gyasi Zardes made me think about his development. How far off do you think Zardes is away from national team consideration? He is a raw talent still, but with the right development he could make an impact on the international level. How far away is he from getting into a camp?

Pretty far I’d say. There’s so many young forwards waiting in the wings these days. Agudelo can’t even get in the team right now so I don’t see Zardes having much of a chance any time soon.

Both the Intro and Outro were on point! I’m the biggest fan of the long shows. Keep up the fantastic work, guys…

Ives, as a Red Bulls fan, while I’m not exactly crying out for Cooper, the fact that he’s scored 3 goals this season doesn’t make me think it was a good move. The argument was always that Cooper’s goals last year were all thanks to Henry… but Henry is still there, and there’s no reason for me to think Cooper wouldn’t be scoring more goals (more than Espindola, anyway) playing with Henry again this season. I’m fine with getting rid of Cooper because of the money, not the goals.

Also, as far as the sashes go – I think what makes ALL the difference is whether the sash is over or under the shoulder. The over the shoulder sash looks like a beauty pageant sash. The under the shoulder sash looks considerably cooler. Check out those ’06 send off jerseys that are pretty universally lauded by USMNT fans as the best shirts we’ve ever worn – their sashes were under the shoulder. The less awesome 2010 sashes were over the shoulder.

Also… the midget’s midnight camera limit is probably smart, haha
