With Federico Higuain unavailable, newly-installed Columbus Crew interim head coach Brian Bliss called upon forward Ryan Finley to help lift the team during their mid-week match against the Houston Dynamo.

Finley certainly exceeded all expectations last Wednesday, scoring a goal and assisting on another as the Crew defeated the Dynamo, 2-0. TheĀ  Notre Dame product also played 90 minutes on Saturday in a 3-0 defeat to Sporting Kansas City, but Finley’s overall performances earned him SBI MLS Rookie of the Week honors.

Finley beat out Jason Johnson, Kellyn Acosta, and Dillon Powers for this week’s honors.

What did you think of Finley’s performance? Which rookie stood out to you in MLS Week 28?

  1. Finley was an amazing player at Notre Dame scoring 20 goals his senior season. I believe he led the nation. To put that in perspective, Bunbury led the nation in scoring in 2009 with 17 goals. Would definately like to see more of Finley. However, its difficult for American forwards because MLS teams use their foreign and DP slots on so many forwards.

  2. Ryan had a nice game on Wednesday and laid an egg on Saturday. We’ll ignore Saturday and congratulate Ryan for Wednesday’s game. If he would have made the penalty kick, he would look even better.
