U.S. Under-17 National Team head coach Richie Williams has assembled his first squad of new players as he prepares them for the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship.

Ahead of the 2013 ASG Cup in Alicante, Spain, Williams has called up a 20-man roster, featuring seven players in Major League Soccer academies. The U-17 squad will play three matches between September 25-October 6 against Real Madrid’s academy, Rayo Vallecano’s academy, and another opponent to be determined later.

Fourteen players on the squad are currently in U.S. Soccer’s residency program in Bradenton, Fla while four others currently ply their trade overseas. Joe Gallardo is on the books of Monterrey, Joshua Perez is in the Fiorentina academy, Luca de la Torre plays at Fulham FC, and Daniel Barbir recently moved to Manchester City.

In total, all but two players on the roster were born in 1998. Those two players are Tyler Adams and Edwin Lara, who were each born in 1999.

Here’s a closer look at the U-17 National Team squad for the ASG Cup:

  1. where us kyle scott? he plays for chelsea u18 and has interest from barca and real madrid. This is how we lose our future american stars to other countries. The u17 coach refuses to call them up fire richie williams!!!!!!!!

    • 3 players from PDA is pretty impressive, but another from Hershey, 2 NYRB players and another NYer suggests a bias towards northeast players. Hard to imagine this is a first choice team, especially with only one Texan. Almost the entire team is from California or the NY-Philly axis. 13 of 17.

  2. Why is Richie Williams still involved in our national program after being the first coach to fail to make the U17 WC in forever? Can’t the ABMOD fade into the sunset quietly? Must he still torment us? Before you know it we’re going to hear about him breaking the ankles of a leading prospect during a practice exercise he joins in on.
