SeattleSoundersCelebrate1-ChicagoFire (SeattleSounders)

By DAN KARELL

Despite playing without U.S. Men’s National Team players Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsey, the Seattle Sounders made the most of their two-match week.

The Sounders accrued full points in victories over Chivas USA on Wednesday and the Chicago Fire on Saturday, shooting up to second place in the Western Conference standings with still eight games remaining. The Sounders’ performance this week earned them SBI MLS Team of the Week honors.

The Sounders beat out the New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, and FC Dallas for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Sounders performance this week? Which team stood out to you in MLS Week 28?

    • Not after that USMNT performance. I think SSFC will do everything they can to keep him, and the only way he gets traded is if they can’t find a way to make cap room for his pay day

  1. To me the Earthquakes fought a valiant battle playing with only 10 men for the last 30 minutes and still won 1-0. The goal scored by Shea Salinas should be the goal of the week.

  2. Needed a own goal late to get past Chicago at home, Seattle needs to play a lot better going forward against some real good teams if they want the supporters shield.

  3. And good lord did we miss him on that PK. Ozzie just hasn’t been the same since he missed the PK vs. PDX in the USOC a few years back.

      • There was no one on the field that I wanted taking that PK. If Carrasco had started, I’d say give it to him without question. Ozzie was our best option, sadly.

    • Did you just say Ozzie “hasn’t been the same for a few years”? True, he’s gotten BETTER!…Ozzie (and Beckerman) have been, far and away, the 2 best Defensive Midfielders in MLS for several years now…..

      • You didn’t notice the context of the sentence. I’m referring solely to his PK taking. That’s it, nothing more. Ever since he missed that PK against the USL Timbers back in, what, 2010?, he simply hasn’t been the same at taking them.

      • Yep. You’re right. I didn’t notice the context. Who would after reading it? Thanks for clarifying. For a second I thought one of us had lost their mind!

  4. And 1 of those games without Oba and Leo. Sounders were hurting for starters against Chivas and missing stars for Chicago. I wasn’t surprised to find us as the TotW. 7 wins in 8 games in pretty damn good

  5. Also played without USMNT RB Brad Evans, who was called up to the squad that faced Costa Rica and will face Mexico, but had to withdraw because of injury (suffered in last Saturday’s game vs. Columbus). He also missed the Chivas and Chicago games.
