The hottest team in Major League Soccer is showing no signs of slowing down.

Peaking down the stretch run of the season, the Seattle Sounders dominated visiting Real Salt Lake last Friday to go into first place in the Western Conference, downing RSL, 2-0, even though both Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson began the match on the bench. Sigi Schmid’s side put in a strong performance that’s deserving of SBI MLS Team of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.

The Sounders beat out the Columbus Crew, Houston Dynamo, and Chicago Fire for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Sounders performance? Which team stood out to you in MLS Week 29?

  1. The Sounders need to seriously think of opening up the upper part of the stadium for the whole playoffs too. They are just too dominate when more of the fans are able to show up.

Home field with full stadium all the way through, they have to be heavy favorites to win the MLS Cup, even if they are forced to play Evans, Johnson, and Dempsey… I am only sort of joking ( don’t sit Nagle )

I wonder if the Sounders don’t because of TV. Seems like the Nat TV games have more open up stadiums games, 20-30k more fans watching the local broadcasts, probably makes a difference.
Is there more money in people going to the games or watching on TV ?

    • They dont open up everything unless they are confident they can sell everything. Having a packed lower two bowls is far better for atmosphere than packed two bowls and partial top bowl.

    • The whole stadium will likely be open for the playoffs — I believe that has been the case every year except for maybe a handful of times a few years ago.
