For the first time since the 10-match ban was handed to him by the FA last April, Luis Suarez will suit up in a competitive match for Liverpool.

The Reds have been handed a difficult tie in the Capital One Cup, with a visit to Manchester United on tap on Wednesday, though Man United have plenty of problems of their own. The two teams who have plenty of history between the two now has an added story line to watch, with the return of Suarez.

Also in action on Wednesday, Arsenal visit West Bromwich Albion in the League Cup, Bayern Munich host Hannover 96 in the German Cup, and a busy day of fixtures between Spain and Italy sees Real Madrid host Elche in La Liga and Sampdoria visit first-place AS Roma.

In the evening, first the Houston Dynamo host W Connection and then the Los Angeles Galaxy take on Cartagines in CONCACAF Champions League action.

  1. Good win for Newcastle over Leeds. And for their troubles they get… oh yeah. Man City. Well, that’s the league cup for this year.

    • Unfortunately, I can see him getting completely lost on this side. He has an unconventional playing style with some outsized flaws ans strengths that doesn’t appeal to all managers and Hughes didn’t sign him. I think he’s making a decent salary so maybe he can force a transfer in January to a side that rates him.

  2. Half time 0-0. Some decent efforts and a blown great chance from Sturridge. Otherwise… sloppy play for everyone!

Game has a Cup feel and look to it no doubt.

  3. Looks like Moyes has flipped the script for the team and is putting out a mostly reserve squad. Liverpool have their first team on the pitch.

United are starting Evans, Kagawa, Nani, Buttner, Giggs and Hernandez of note. Rooney with the armband.

      • I can somewhat see what you’re saying but its not like he’s putting out a bunch of scrubs. Rooney is out there. So are other starters and if you’ve got guys like Kagawa, Giggs, Nani, Jones, Chicharito, etc., you’re going to want to find spots to use them and these midweek matches are the spots. Keep in mind, MU has Champions League, LFC does not, so LFCs starters have more opportunities to rest. It’s a long season. Despite the poor result this weekend, Moyes can’t burn out his starters, ESP when he has excellent reserves.

  4. This match has so many great narratives! Moyes NEEDS a rebound win. Liverpool has Suarez coming back–and they need a rebound win after losing the top of the Premiership.

A loss for either team will send them into a media firestorm. Should be some great energy.

    • It is horrific. At this rate, 10s of thousands of people will be murdered by the time the World Cup rolls around.

FIFA is sanctioning slavery and crimes against humanity.
