On the back of two goalless performances in consecutive losses, the Philadelphia Union turned their post-season hopes around in a big way when they visited Sporting Park last Friday.

Through a second half goal from bruising forward Conor Casey, the Union stunned Sporting Kansas City on the road, 1-0, earning a crucial three points to keep them in playoff contention in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The Union’s performance on the road this week made them our choice for SBI MLS Team of the Week.

The Union beat out Real Salt Lake, the Portland Timbers, and the Columbus Crew for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Union’s performance? Which team stood out to you in MLS Week 31?

  1. Union have had so many bad breaks from bad calls over the past couple of games. Great to see the tide change!!! MacMath and Defense had another fantastic performance with a league lead on clean sheets. Back in the hunt!!

  2. I think the Union did fine. However as games go, the Earthquakes game was a winner because they were not only robbed of a goal (because the referee saw a ficticious foul), they also scored with only ten men on a field that is ordinarily not kind to them, and I thought Chivas played a terrific game. It was a very exciting game to watch.
