By FRANCO PANIZO
Talk about a dream return.
Sidelined since early September with an ankle injury, Michael Bradley made his way back onto the field for AS Roma as substitute in Sunday’s duel with Udinese and came up with the timeliest of goals to give his club the three points. Bradley entered the match in the 78th minute and scored the heroic game-winner four minutes later to see Roma pick up the 1-0 victory that added to their lead atop the Serie A table. Bradley now has two goals in his time with Roma.
Another of the weekend’s most dramatic goals came courtesy of Terrence Boyd. The young striker netted an 88th-minute winner in the latest Vienna Derby, one that Rapid Vienna claimed, 1-0, on the road. Boyd now has seven goals in league play and eight across all competitions this season.
Not to be outdone in the drama department, Jozy Altidore set up the late goal that gave Sunderland their sorely-needed first win of the Premiership campaign. Altidore assisted on the winner in the 84th minute of the Black Cats’ match on Sunday, teeing up Fabio Borini for the spectacular go-ahead tally in a surprise 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at Stadium of Light.
There were several other noteworthy performances. Sacha Kljestan scored a goal in less than a minute in RSC Anderlecht’s 1-1 draw with Pro League leaders Standard Liege, Timmy Chandler had an equalizing assist as he was being reportedly scouted by U.S. Men’s National Team coaches in Nurnberg’s 1-1 tie with VfB Stuttgart, and Tim Howard made an early penalty-kick save to help set the tone for a 2-0 Everton triumph over Brad Guzan’s Aston Villa.

What do you think of these performances? Could you have envisioned a better Roma return for Bradley? Think Boyd should be called into next month’s U.S. camp? Do you see Altidore and Sunderland picking things up now that they have their first win under their belt?
Share your thoughts below.
Wooten is not going to be in the lineup today vs Bochum because he played for the reserve side on Saturday.
Carlo Zampa’s reaction to Bradley scoring:

ROFL lex luthor! lex luthor!
“vai che te ricrescono i capelli!!!”
“your hair re-grow tonite!”
Oh that is just hysterical. Fantastic! Thanks for the link.
Jide seems really happy in Viborg and it’s showing through some solid play. Hope they can make a tournament on the continent, would love to see my family’s hometown club on tv in the states.
Strootman, Pjanic, De Rossi..Bradley has non chance…so says my Italian friend, but I hope otherwise. I’m a big fan of his, like everyone on this site. Prove the Italian’s wrong!
Watching the highlights of the Everton/AV game the build up was the Belgium strikers, but quickly turned to the American keepers. Both looked real good. Its nice to know that we have some of the best in the World between the pipes!
pictured: SAY HELLO TO MY INVISIBLE FRIEND
who in the hell is duane holmes?
clue phone please.
He’s an 18 year old English-American who has already pledged allegiance to the US. Great skill, going to be a great player one day. The future is bright.
Pretty good weekend for the fellas, Timmy’s PK save was top notch! Good to see jozy and corona back in a better situation
We’re headed into the period where match fitness comes into consideration for the November friendlies. I’d love to see a few new faces get opportunities next month, but neither Cherundolo nor Brooks saw playing time this weekend.
If you’re Brek Shea, I think it’s about time to hit the panic button. He looked to be one of Klinsman’s favorites a year ago but game after game not dressing for Stoke has got to mean that he ain’t going to Brazil. He’d better find a loan in January.
I hope this happens to Zusi
Why?
He’s a step too slow to be elite, but he is skilled, reliable, and works hard. I don’t see a reason he won’t go as a situational or depth player.
I think Klinsmann’s courtship of Brek was mostly psychological. Get him involved so that he will push himself to a new challenge. It doesn’t seem to have worked like Klinsmann would have hoped, but in the end it makes little difference. Brek was always going to be behind a stable of players and now he’s just a little farther behind. I never thought he’d be in the 23 to Brazil.
Why no Bedoya?
Nantes coach said in an interview this week how thrilled he was with Bedoya, and also said he sees his best spot as a CAM, not on the outside.
They went down a man so I wouldn’t think it’s a big deal unless he only intends to play him in the middle, where apparently he’s not the starter
The Nantes manager said that Bedoya was behind Jordan Veretout in the pecking order. In the attacking mid role. This is a Definite problem for Bedoya because Veretout just happens to be Nantes best player, for sure. His playmaking, hold up play, technical ability is all superb. I could see him seeing a lot of attention in January with offers of upwards of 5 million euros, for sure. Problem though is Nantes probably won’t be inclined to sell, because he’s key to their survival and that leaves Bedoya stuck as a back up still.
The Nantes manager mentioned that he’s aware Bedoya plays for the Nats on the wing, but I’m not sure he sees him as a viable winger option. But In all likelihood, to earn a starting position, I think he’ll just have to force someone out of the wing positions
Worth mentioning Serge Gakpé is their best winger and plays on the right side, Bedoya’s preferred position. I think that there’s a high chance Bedoya could be reduced to spot duty.
Good to see Corona getting some minutes for Tijuana.
btw, the poster “k” below is just trolling – seen them pollute a bunch of posts before.
Maybe Edu could go back to Rangers!
And he should take Bornstein with him.
You forgot Zusi
Bradley is the man. End of discussion.
Bradley won’t play anymore! He needs to leave Roma! He’s not good enough to get on the pitch!
What tripe. He played last year. He played before the injury. He’ll be playing now. End of story. People here undervalue MB90 time and again. Guess who doesn’t? The people who coach him and play with him.
I AGREE! I also have an opinion and other people with their opinions on this internet message board are totally wrong, unlike us!
Hey! Opinionated person! We don’t take kindly to yer type around here.
Now calm down, Skeeter, they ain’t hurtin’ nobody.
I so hope that wasn’t setup and delivered by the same person. Hilarious either way though
Stop tryin to be all political like!
You left out one–They got Bradley only because Roma has American owners.
The people who think Bradley will displace DDR, Stroot, or Pjanic are sadly deluded.
He looks to be the first sub in midfield when he is healthy and they have a long season with lots of different competitions, I am confident that he will get regular minutes even if he is not always a starter. Injuries and fatigue will set in soon enough.
I completely agree with that. Also, he may get some starting time if they try Pjanic up front while Gervinho and Totti are out (the front three were abysmal today). I just feel the need to correct the record for the many people who don’t watch Roma at all, yet feel certain in their claim that he’ll be taking his starting spot back any week now.
My little contribution from the country boot shaped: Bradley is a good guy and DDR himself, talking about people that are giving a huge help to the team with their dedication, attitude and behaviour, indicated Bradley as one of the examples.
We all love him here, anyway we all aware that DDR, Pjanic and Strootman are different level players.
Bradley is a need when he is needed. He knows it, he’s always ready when called. That would make him grow and play better at every time.
Tripe is a harsh word for it. If Bradley is in competition for his position with two or three good players, it seems reasonable his playing time might decrease. That doesn’t mean in the odd week he might not seem more fresh in training than the others and get a start here or there, or may see action if there’s a tactical adjustment for a particular opponenet, but his spot in the best 11 is by no means nailed down… and saying otherwise is certainly not “tripe.”
Indeed. The reaction of his teammates to the goal and to him was inspirational. He is clearly valued there (and deservedly so).
Usmnt scouts were on hand to watch Timmy Chandler play.
He’s now started 6 straight, after only starting 1 of the first 3 games. Looks like he’s back in form…
I’m wondering if this scouting visit was planned if he got his starting spot back consistently or does it have something to do with Evan’s performance the last 2 qualifiers….
Be interesting to see if he gets called in for the friendlies….
He will accept a call to the Austria game, cuz its near by, but the trip next summer to the USA and Brazil he is less interested…
Well, Brazil is a lot further away than, Austria … like you said, Austria is pretty close by.
Brazil is too close to Honduras.
klinsy needs to drop everything sounder
Yedlin played well but dempsey and evans need to goooo! I’ve never been sold on Dempsey being the savior during landons sabbatical. So yeah hate to say it but I saw this coming. Landon has always been better and Dempsey will always live under his shadow
Luv Dempsey, want to see more Texans make the World Cup, but I feel with his drop in form (and to a much lessor extent, age) leave him behind A Johanson as a wiley poacher, and Donovan, Bedoya, FJ, Zusi,on the wings.
I feel like Yedlin has been exposed during this sounders slide. He is a big prospect, no doubt, but he is not close to being ready for the full nats. Was also throwing EJ into that mix due to his off field issues more so than his play on the field.
you can bet on chandler being in the november friendlies.
Was hoping to see Gooch’s debut but will have to wait a bit longer. MB90 is the man. Hope to see him starting soon.
dudes i need $1000 for a flight to Munich and then a train to Italy
ideas? Im looking for a job but nobody wanna hire a “minority”
don’t tell me I gotta do gay porn
Not sure if this is bad trolling or just a joke I’m in on.
Cap that fella Fernando Torres
fantastic game today despite the early miss

seriously why isn’t DEMPSEY dressing for Spurs? I just got back from 6months of studying in New Zealand.
I didn’t know they didn’t have Internet, bbc, or the premier league there. Doh!
Or google now.
Because he transferred to Seattle Sounders Football Club weeks and weeks ago.
Because NZ lost the America’s cup, Spurs sold Dempsey. Okay half that is true.
Dude quit trolling my friends who are expats and live in NZ are aware of his departure from spurs. It was on twitter, stuff.co.nz had a article, ALSO IT WAS ALL OVER TWITTER
“ALSO IT WAS ALL OVER TWITTER”
So it must be true right?
mlssoccer wrote something on it called it dempsey twitter watch or something of that sort
McBride and EJ are keeping him on the bench.
Really hope Bradley just stays with Roma. Finally an American is playing for a top team.
Roma is not a top team. They are a good team, but they are not one of the elite.
That may be your opinion but Most experts disagree. They are currently ranked in the top 10 clubs in the world on every one of the big lists.
In fact, Shaka has them at #2 on his list.
they’re usually a Spurs/Liverpool kinda team but lately they are competing for the title and are now assured of a European spot my man
They certainly are a Top team if we are going by form and current league status. They couldn’t win the champions league but they clearly are good. Napoli are no pushovers.(They beat BVB afterall….)
When a team wins 9 games in a row to start the season to set a Serie A record, well, that makes a pretty good case for a top team.
Roma are a team on the rise. No reason they can’t become an european elite.
This is UEFA’s list of their top clubs based on their performance in Europe. I don’t see Roma anywhere on the list.

Right now, Roma is most definitely better than half the teams on that list

EGR,
The key phrase in your sentence is “right now”. Roma have been very average for some time.
So you are saying hot start to the season makes you a TOP club? Who have they beaten this year besides Inter and the MLS All Stars?
The hot start is no doubt aided by the fact that Roma are not in the Champions’s League or the Europa League. Which is one reason UEFA does not rate them highly.
Who on that list are they better than?
Roma are headed in the right direction but rating them a TOP club is premature. They have a ways to go before you can put them in the same category as Juve, Milan and Inter, just to name three TOP clubs in their own league.
9 games, 27 points, scoreboard
GW you realize that list is based solely on champions league and europa league results right?
And that roma weren’t in either of those competitions in 2013?
ag,
Exactly.
Follow your facts. Roma have not been in Europe for quite a while.Long enough to get lots of people fired.
How can you rate them a TOP club?
Good to see MB90 back. Jozy looked good. Confidence builder. Hopefully Chandler regains form
Great day for YA contributing in meaningful ways to victories. And Mikey B with a composed finish that shows you don’t always need to strike the ball with menace to score.
Videos please. Thank you.
The Yanks are Back in TOWN
Jozy was Man of the Match and Boyd scored a powerful header to give his team a derby victory
where’s Dempsey been? still injured. he hasn’t played for Spurs all season man
Is the Dempsey comment serious or a joke? You know he transferred to the Seattle Sounders before the start of the season, right?
LOL Dempsey-Spurs youre funny
Best week for the yanks abroad in awhile
