The SBI Show: Episode 79 (Talking USA-Jamaica, MLS Week 34, and more)

Jermaine Jones Jozy Altidore

It was an eventful few days in the American soccer scene, with the U.S. Men’s National Team clinching first place in the CONCACAF Hexagonal Round of World Cup qualifying, and the Portland Timbers beating the Seattle Sounders in the marquee match-up in MLS.

Episode 79 of The SBI Show takes a look back at the USMNT’s win vs. Jamaica, and breaks down the performances of some of the key players. We also discuss the USA’s standing as kings of CONCACAF now after winning the 2013 Gold Cup and finishing tops in the HEX.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss the past weekend’s MLS action, including Portland’s 1-0 victory vs. the Seattle Sounders, a win that moved the Timbers into first place in the MLS Western Conference.

Give Episode 79 of The SBI Show a listen after the jump:

What did you think of the show? Impressed with Portland’s victory vs. Seattle? What did you think of the USMNT’s win vs. Jamaica? Who do you see taking the MLS Supporters Shield?

    You sound sick, Ives.

I’ll be sure to send Gareth and Appletini if I ever make it to a game that he makes too.

By the way, the main character dies. Just kidding, I don’t even know the main character’s name, never seen the show. : )

You are out of your mind, Gareth. We don’t need Mexico in the World Cup. They suck!!!!!!!!!! Great. Having a team that has only won two games in qualifying is really going to make Concacaf look good? Are you nuts????????? The World Cup would be just fine without Mexico. Why? Because the suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have had three coaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are not getting any better. Costa Rica should not sleep on the 15th; they should smash them. Panama has a great change in beating the U.S. The U.S. should put in no defense Castillo and that suck player Orozco together because they suck.

But honestly, I am not cheering for Mexico to make it. The underdog panama appeals more to my American nature. That would be awesome for their country.

Good show & I agree with Ives’ assessment of the Portland Timbers and their new Coach Porter. I wish the Timbers further continuous success. Ives, I hope you enjoy your stay in sunny Portland. Have a few rounds of great microbrews in the Portland soccer pub tomorrow to celebrate the next US victory over Panama!!!
