Liga MX Round 13: A Look Ahead

This Saturday marks the next installment of Mexico’s “El Clasico” or the match between Chivas Guadalajara and Club America, though the two historic clubs couldn’t be on more different tracks at the moment

Under owner Jorge Vergara, Chivas have continued to suffer a serious decline and with their elimination from Copa MX earlier this week, the Goats have nothing more to play for but pride, as the playoffs seem out of reach in the Liga MX Apertura season. Club America on the other hand are running away with the regular season title, having lost one game but still sitting top of the table with 28 points, six more than second-placed Club Leon. A rout at Estadio Azteca is a real possibility for the home side.

Elsewhere in Liga MX this weekend, Club Tijuana continue their crazy schedule by welcoming Queretaro to Estadio Caliente on Friday, Xolos’ fourth game in nine days, Tigres UANL host Toluca, and American duo DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco visit Leon in a key matchup.

  1. Garza pulled in the 41st minute. He signaled to the bench just after getting scorched and not tracking back when it looked like he pulled up. Castillo at LB now.

  2. Xolos attacks are mostly coming down the left side, with Castillo, Garza, and Martinez all rotating as LWMs. This is working with Garza and Castillo switching LB duties, while Martinez and Castillo are LWM and CM duties. Castillo is mostly playing as a CM, with Garza at LB and Martinez out wide. Castillo has clearly been the best player on the pitch and looks to have the most touches in CM.
