With a place in the postseason already confirmed, it would have been easy for the New York Red Bulls to take it easy on the road at the Houston Dynamo.

Instead, thanks to a fast start from Tim Cahill’s goal seven seconds into the game, the Red Bulls showed that they are a team to be reckoned with in the MLS Cup playoffs, defeating the Dynamo, 3-0, at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Red Bulls’ performance on Sunday made them our choice for SBI MLS Team of the Week.

The Red Bulls beat out the Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, and the New England Revolution for this week’s honors.

What did you think of the Red Bulls’ performance? Which team stood out to you in MLS Week 35?

  1. HEART.

Its the one word difference between this year’s team and the previous season’s. Cuz I don’t think this team is more talented than the one of a couple years ago, but you add two LIONS into the franchise (one at coach with Petke, and the other on the field in Cahill) with tons of fire, and its amazing the change it makes. Let’s be honest, we’re winning still with two subpar wingers, so the scary thing is imagine if Sam and Lade were starting out wide (they should) and we’d be ever better.

    • I don’t think either are fit enough to play 90 minutes. I think that’s the case with Lloyd and almost certain with Lade. Don’t think I’d start Lade but I’d like to have Lloyd in there on Sunday even for 45 minutes if he’s fit.

  2. Awesome performance by New York although the scoreline did not reflect the game. Houston created a number of chances, it is just that Robles came up big a couple of times and the Dynamo were just wide of the target.

    • Are you forgetting the dozen or so shots that Houston blasted into the stands? It wasn’t like every attempt was “just wide”. Houston was never ever going to win that game, 4-0 would have actually been the proper result.

    • I’ve never understood the argument that trouble finishing and good goalkeeping don’t factor into who deserved the win. And Houston taking crappy shot from distance means nil.

      • this whole “giving credit where it’s due” and saying that missed shots shouldn’t matter in who deserved to win reminds me of parents that want to give trophies to everyone in little league… Houston, in ZERO way, deserved to win or looked like the better team…

    • I thought a lot of Houston’s shots were skeptical but agree that Robles was an equal factor getting the win as the three goal scorers were.
