Americans Abroad: Weekend Preview

Mix Diskerud Rosenborg (Rosenborg BK)

By FRANCO PANIZO

It could be a memorable weekend for Mix Diskerud and Rosenborg BK, but only if they win and get some help in the process.

Diskerud and Rosenborg are entering the final round of Tippeligaen matches on Sunday just one point behind league leaders Stromsgodset, and will need a win and some help in order to add to their record total of 22 championships in Norway. Rosenborg might benefit from facing a Lillestrom side with not much to play for, but still need to hope that Stromsgodset suffers an upset loss at home vs. third-placed Haugesund.

Jose Torres and Tigres UANL are in a similar situation, though the potential reward will not be as glorious. Torres and his club are one point off a place in Liga MX’s playoffs heading into the final weekend of the regular season, and will likely need a victory over Atlas on Saturday combined with a Morelia or Queretaro defeat. A draw could also be good enough for Tigres, but only if Queretaro lose at Pachuca.

Another match worth watching will be AS Roma’s clash with relegation-threatened Sassuolo on Sunday, as it could mark Michael Bradley’s second consecutive start for the undefeated Serie A leaders. Bradley started in last week’s draw with Torino and will be aiming to make his way back into Roma’s lineup as the Italian giants attempt to make it 12 straight matches without a loss.

      • I think he gets called in, however I think JK names a different captain and might not start him. He’ll want him in camp if for no other reason then to see whats going on there.

      • JK doesn’t have knee j3rk reactions like most US fans. Demp will be called in and will start. He’s proven himself. Is he in a rough patch? Yup. But the BS from USA “fans” is astonishing.

      • Dempsey is far from the first DP to come into the league and not get off too a great start. So I’m not so worried about that but on the other hand Klinsmann does like to send a message at times. Trying to guess what Klinsman is going to do is never easy though.

  2. How many years running has the article said Whitbread (out injured)? I think it just need to be changed to Whitbread and we will all just assume that he is injured and if he ever gets back to playing, then you can say Whitbread (healthy). Just an idea to save you some time.
