A dream year for Tim Cahill just got even better.
Cahill helped Australia win its first game under new head coach Ange Postecoglou on Tuesday, coming off the bench to score a trademark header in the Socceroos’ 1-0 triumph over Costa Rica at Allianz Stadium in Sydney. The goal gave Cahill 29 in his international career, tying the New York Red Bulls midfielder with Damian Mori for the most scored by an Australian.
The 33-year-old Cahill, who is coming off a season with the New York Red Bulls in which he scored a team-high 11 goals and added five assists, was inserted into the match in the 52nd minute and it took him only 17 minutes to make an impact.
It was vintage Cahill as he rose to head home a cross from the left, giving the home crowd something to cheer about in the Socceeroos’ final match of 2013 and further engraving his name into Australian soccer history.

With the way Costa Rica and Honduras played their past games I would not be surprised if they shrivel up at the WC.
right, they play so hard during qualifying but then afterwards they look completely outmatched. maybe they just really like playing against the USA and Mexico.
